Chapter 515 Trust Him Just This Once

Upon hearing that, Cedrick stopped playing with Benedict and met Charles' gaze before putting on a straight face.

In response to Charles' probing question, Cedrick neither agreed nor declined to help. Instead, he questioned, “How would you want me to help you?”

Charles was as cool as a cucumber when he replied, “Unlike you, Mr. Jenson, I've never been in charge of a family before. Since I'm inexperienced, I would rather take your advice.”

Cedrick went silent and continued playing with Benedict.

Charles was being extremely patient, and he continued entertaining Zendaya.

Gwendolyn arrived home from work later that night. She had been working overtime over the past few nights as she worked hard to develop a business proposal for Dovil Group.

Although Neal had implied that the tender event would only be a formality and he would collaborate with Harris Group, Gwendolyn wanted to avoid getting criticized by the public. Therefore, she was determined to develop a perfect business proposal to win the tender fair and square.

As she was walking from the study to the bedroom, she was rubbing her temples wearily. At that moment, Cedrick was in bed and scrolling through his phone. When he saw her coming in, he immediately got out of bed, put on his house slippers, and carried her.

After that, he sat on the bed and rested Gwendolyn on his lap.

With his slender fingers, he went on to massage her shoulders, back, and legs.

Gwendolyn merely shut her eyes to enjoy the massage.

A few minutes later, she felt a lot less lethargic.

While massaging her, Cedrick's mind started drifting away. I should ask for Gwendolyn's opinion regarding what Charles told me in the nursery earlier today.

With that in mind, he uttered, “Darling, Charles has been coming to our house a lot lately. With the fierce battle for the head of the Newton family going on, I think he had asked me to help him secure some shares. Do you think I should help him?”

Hearing that, Gwendolyn opened her eyes and looked at him. “What do you think?”

In a serious tone, Cedrick answered, “A lot of people tend to lose self-control when given power. Things will usually go south shortly after. Moreover, Charles wasn't necessarily a good man before this. If someone were to hand over the position of authority to Charles, he could become dangerous.”

Gwendolyn kept mum for a long while before asking, “If your mind was made up, why did you bother asking me?”

“Well...” While Cedrick was still massaging Gwendolyn, he plunged into a dilemma. Well, the bad blood between us is all in the past now. When Charles returned this time around, he helped me and got beaten up badly in the process. By right, I should return the favor, no? As long as it's within my capabilities, I should help him. Then again, I can't help being wary of him.

Gwendolyn seemed to know what was on his mind, so she sighed and said earnestly, “Craig getting sent to prison is a huge blow for Newton Group. At this time, the company needs a reliable leader who can manage the situation. Frankly, Charles is a very capable man. On the contrary, Lucas isn't. Lucas is inherently cowardly and easily manipulated. Hence, he can't achieve great things. The other candidates in the branch families are worse. Knowing how cruel they are, they might kick Jasmine out of the Newton residence in no time.”

Cedrick remained silent and glanced at Gwendolyn. He didn't expect her to have thought about the matter so minutely.

She then added, “Regarding Charles, he has really helped us this time around, and he's also Benny's and Zendy's godfather. Perhaps we should return the favor. Furthermore, Treyton told me if Charles were to become the head of the family, Treyton could get engaged to Jennifer and stay with her. In other words, letting Charles be the head of the Newton family can benefit everyone. Why don't we trust him just this once?”

Having already heard so much, Cedrick found no reason to object. “All right. I'll listen to you, Darling,” he answered. I guess letting Charles be the head of the Newton family isn't that big of a deal. After all, he isn't the head of the Central Intelligence Agency anymore, so he has no influence over the military. I doubt he can do much if he's merely the head of his family.
