Noticing the change in the woman's expression, he comforted her in a gentle tone, “Don't worry, Gwen. Benny and Zendy are really well-behaved. Benny is done with his injection, and he didn't cry at all. Zendy is a little less brave, but she's not crying much with me holding her.”

Putting on a strong front, Gwendolyn forced a smile and said, “Zendy, you're such a good girl. Mommy and Daddy will be back tomorrow. The injection won't hurt at all. The doctor will be very gentle.”

“Zendy, be good. Mommy is watching you. I will also be by your side.” Charles pointed at Gwendolyn on the screen.

As if she could feel Gwendolyn's presence, Zendaya blinked a few times while trying to grab the phone with her chubby hands.

Charles smiled and replied, “Sure. I've been looking forward to getting a treat from you. I'm going to remember that and make sure you keep your word.”

Gwendolyn nodded.

After the video call ended, the woman could no longer hold back her tears. She sat on the edge of the bed and started sobbing alone.

She was the only one who knew how arduous the ten months of pregnancy had been for her.
