The two elders were startled and hastily shook their heads, seeking to distance themselves from those crimes.

Two minutes later, two police officers brought Yael into the ancestral hall under Elven's direction.

Everyone in the Jenson family was stunned when they saw Yael, having not seen him in a long time.

Even though Cedrick had someone change him into a clean suit, the weariness on his face and his half-white hair made the middle-aged man seem like he had aged a dozen years.

Yael had been the target of bullying from his cellmates for the past few days, leaving him with bruises all over his body that were covered by his suit.

He entered the ancestral hall escorted by the two police officers, the metal shackles on his hands and feet rattling at every step he took.

The entire ancestral hall was silent, everyone fixing their scrutinizing gazes on him.

He was surrounded by a range of piercing looks, from anticipatory to gleeful and smug.

Uneasy from being stared at so intensely, Yael bowed his head, concealing the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes.

Their hostile stares seemed to pierce him in a hundred different places, making him extremely uncomfortable.

He made his way silently to the open area in the center of the ancestral hall, stopping in front of the ancestral portraits.

Since Cedrick did not prepare a cushion for him, he could only hunch his shoulders and kneel on the cold marble floor.

Meanwhile, Logan went to retrieve the punishment whip from an intricately-carved box.

Nico stood at one side and instructed coldly, “Yael, take off your shirt and receive twenty lashes.”

Yael was stunned as Cedrick had not mentioned receiving the family's whipping punishment. He had not been subjected to this punishment for almost twenty years. Twenty lashes could seriously injure him to the brink of death.

However, his pride over the years did not allow him to beg Cedrick for mercy. Even if he did, the latter would not let him off, and he would merely face everyone's ridicule.

He snorted contemptuously, directing his anger at Nico. “Do you think that you, an adopted son whom Cedrick brought back, are worthy of standing in the ancestral hall and handing out my punishment condescendingly?”

Despite his temper spiking, Nico had no words of retort since Yael was right. He was only able to enter the Jenson family because of Cedrick.

Meanwhile, Cedrick, who sat facing him directly, immediately frowned and emanated a frigid aura. “Although Nico is an adopted son, he has shown his dedication since becoming part of the family and has never embarrassed the family outside. So, he certainly has the right to hand out your punishment. He is even more worthy than you to stand in the Jenson family ancestral hall,” he cut in.

Yael had nothing to say in retaliation, knowing that saying anything would be futile given the substantial evidence pointing to his wrongdoings.

Nico, on the other hand, was content, having been defended by Cedrick in front of everyone in the ancestral hall. The sense of dependence he had toward the latter deepened considerably as a result.

Logan soon returned with the whip.

Since Yael had not removed his shirt, Nico had to get the police officers to help him.
