Hearing that, Nico hugged Summer’s slender shoulders and gently patted her to comfort her and give her a sense of security.

“I’ll pay you,” Nico said before whipping out a bank card and delivering it to Caleb and Lucinda. “There’s two-and-a-half million in this card. I’m sure this amount is a few times more than what you forked out to provide for Summer back then.”

Lucinda was over the moon and couldn’t wait to take the card from Nico. “Thank you, Mr. Nico! You’re so sweet toward Summer! I must admit that this is the most generous meeting gift I’ve ever received.”

“What’s this, Mr. Nico? Didn’t you say you were giving the money to us?” Lucinda asked.

“What’s the hurry? I wasn’t done talking.” Nico snorted.

Lucinda had no choice but to take a few steps back and stand next to Caleb reluctantly.

In a strong and deep voice, Nico uttered. “I’m giving you two-and-a-half million as compensation for the money you spent on raising Summer. However, things aren’t as simple as they look.”

After Nico said that, Caleb and Lucinda exchanged solemn glances.

“Caleb, you trafficked Summer to Erihal and gambled away all the illegal money you made from that deal. I’ve asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation to collect all the evidence of your crimes and compile them

into a dossier. You may collect the money I’m offering, but you’re both going to jail,” Nico added.

“What?” Caleb and Lucinda were stunned.

Lucinda was also puzzled by those words, so she asked, “I wasn’t involved in that. Why should I get jailed as well?”

“Didn’t you instigate Caleb to sell me off in Erihal back then?” Summer asked.

“Why would I do that? I even told him I was against what he wanted to do!” Lucinda was adamant about denying it.

“It’s all right.” Nico let out a snort and continued, “Since you’re denying it, you should visit the Federal Bureau of Investigation. I believe they have professionals who are capable of extricating the truth out of you. However, you’ll surely receive a heavier sentence for lying.”
