Wooing My ex-wife (Gwendolyn and Maverick) novel Chapter 842

Chapter 842 Impossible To Please

Whitney was terrified to the core and too scared to struggle for fear that she might fall flat on her bum.

Feeling the warmth of his body and the rhythm of his heartbeat, Whitney slowly turned her head and raised her swollen eyes to meet his gaze.

At that very moment, her eyes resembled an aggrieved baby deer who was desperately in need of her master’s comfort and yearning for a warm embrace to alleviate all the malice she had endured recently.

Charles settled on the couch and allowed Whitney to sit on his lap. His fingertips threaded through her golden hair and soothingly massaged the back of her head.

Whitney was stunned.

It seemed as if the man before her eyes had been possessed.

He was so gentle that it felt like a trap.

In his arms. Whitney gradually calmed down.

“Are you feeling better after letting it all out?”

Whitney blinked her long lashes, which were wet with tears before nodding in a daze.

Charles took a tissue and gently wiped her tears away. “Do you still want to resign?”

His voice was unusually gentle.

Somewhat taken aback, Whitney still nodded. Her gaze was resolute.

Understanding her concerns, Charles released his embrace, pressed the intercom, and instructed Isaac, “Whitney will work at the top level from now on and serve as my assistant.”

Upon hearing that, Whitney was shocked.

Gossip had already spread like wildfire in the company. If she were to work directly by his side, it would inevitably fuel the rumors even more.

She did not want to become a burden to him.

When the call ended, Charles’ gaze turned to her. Raising an eyebrow, he said, “What else are you worried about? No one dares to gossip when you’re working with me.”

“But… I don’t want to cause you any trouble.”

Charles stood up, returned to his desk, and quickly immersed himself in his work. His fingers were rapidly typing on the keyboard, and he completely ignored Whitney’s words.

“Go pack your things.”

It was still the same tone that brooked no argument and left her no room for discussion.

She was at a loss for words.

Fine then.

Whitney nodded and limped as she walked out.

Back at the logistics department, Isaac was personally packing her things. Whitney quickly took the folder from his hands. “I can do it myself.”

-Your workstation will be ready soon. The HR department has already made arrangements for your position. Starting tomorrow, you will officially be Mr. Newton’s assistant.”

Isaac deliberately spoke about this matter loudly in the logistics department.

He wanted to convey the message that Charles had personally arranged for Whitney to work by his side. because he valued her.

Before leaving. Whitney knocked on Queenie’s office door.

“Come in.”

Upon seeing that the visitor was Whitney, Queenie took the initiative to pour her a cup of warm water.

“I saw the news from the HR department. From now on, you’ll be working alongside Mr. Newton. Working with the CEO is not like working in the logistics department. You need to be on your toes at all times. Try your best not to make mistakes. Do you understand?”

Whitney nodded with a smile. “I understand, Ms. Zeller. Thank you. Ever since I was an intern, you have generously shared your work experience with me. If it weren’t for your guidance, I’m afraid I’d still be that

clueless intern.”

Whitney was truly grateful to Queenie.

Queenie shook her head with a smile. “You don’t need to thank anyone. Everything you’ve achieved is due to your own hard work. I simply saw my past self in you. Keep going. I believe in you.”

“Okay.”

After bidding farewell to Queenie, Whitney headed to the top floor with her belongings.

When the HR department posted the name of Charles new assistant on the company’s official website, the whole company instantly erupted in commotion.

Even those who were originally uninterested in Whitney became curious about who she was and how she had the ability to stay by Charles’ side.

All day long. Whitney’s name was almost on the lips of every employee in the company.

“Isn’t it true that all the assistants and special aides around Mr. Newton are men? How come this time. they’ve let someone from the logistics department become his assistant?”

“Don’t you understand? This person named Whitney is quite capable. In a short period of time, she hast risen from an intern to the position of the CEO’s assistant. From what I know, she’s also quite attractive.”

“Mr. Newton is not the type to be swayed by beauty. She must possess extraordinary abilities to have caught his eye. I remember she even presented a plan at the general staff meeting. Not everyone has the audacity and ability to perform under pressure.”

“Who knows? The thoughts of the CEO are beyond our comprehension. Let’s just focus on doing our own jobs.”

Such discussions had been almost a daily occurrence since Whitney became the CEO’s assistant.

At the top-level assistant’s desk, Whitney was organizing the documents in front of her.

After becoming the CEO’s assistant, she realized just how many tasks Charles had to handle every day.

Ding!

The phone in front of her rang. It was connected to Charles’ office.

Clearing her throat, Whitney hurriedly answered, “Mr. Newton, may I ask what your instructions are?”

Now, during work hours, she addressed him as Mr. Newton.

“Go make a cup of coffee for me. Three parts sugar and seventy percent hot.”

Before Whitney could even respond, the call abruptly ended.

What the heck?

Three parts sugar, seventy percent hot? How am I supposed to measure that?

In the past. Charles had always complained that the coffee she made was either too hot or too cold. This time, he gave her a specific temperature range.

Whitney was overwhelmed.

What frustrated her even more was that he only liked freshly ground coffee. However, every time she ground the coffee, it hurt her hands..

If he was not satisfied, she would have to start all over again.

#hoosh, whoosh, whoosh.

The sound of the coffee grinder echoed in the tea room and pulled Whitney back from her thoughts. She carefully adjusted the concentration of coffee and milk, added a touch of sugar, and felt the temperature of the cup with her hand.

Seventy percent hot should be mildly hot and not scalding, right?

Could it perhaps be like this?

With a sense of unease, Whitney brought in the coffee and respectfully said, “Here is the coffee you requested, Mr. Newton.”

“Mm-hmm.”
