Monique knew he had been talking about what happened earlier. She paused, and sighed, “I’m not a self-righteous person, I’m just aware of what it means for a girl to lose her university education.”
“What does it mean?” Henry looked up, he had a curious look on his face. Their distance was close, and their gaze were fixed on each other. His eyes had been filled with gentleness while he looked at her, Monique’s heartbeat suddenly raced, and her face turned red.
She turned and looked out the window, as if she had been looking at a place far away, “I dropped out of university, I was alone when I left the campus, and I was bearing little Angel at that time…”
Monique paused and looked up at the sky. Tears rolled down her eyes, she wanted to hold her tears. She looked out the window and said it as if it had been another person’s story, about the loneliness and hardship she endured for the past few years. It had been heart wrenching.
Henry looked at her swollen face and the tears she tried to hold back, it felt like a dagger had pierced through him.
“I’m sorry, you’ve been through a lot because of me.” Henry looked at her and said, there had been a trace of care in his husky voice.
That had been the most gentlest thing he had ever said.
Monique coughed. She had been unhappy, but when she heard what he had said, it was as if she had heard extremely shocking news. It had been so shocking that all her sadness had instantly been forgotten, and she accidentally choked on her saliva, “What did you say?”
What did her hardship have anything to do with him? Why had he been apologizing!
Henry looked at her shocked reaction and rolled his eyes, he said it word by word, “From now on, I won’t let anyone bully you.”
He said it like it had been a promise.
“…” Monique had been shocked, she looked at him and did not know how to react to it. Her heart trembled. Had he been out of his mind! That had been frightening!
