Joelle shook her head, unsure of what to do even though she sensed something was wrong.

"Actually, I—" Darius began to speak, but a sudden, loud crash nearby cut him off.

Startled, Joelle covered her ears, and Darius pulled her close, looking toward the rear window. A large rock had smashed through the back windshield.

The sudden incident caught them off guard. Several cars had blocked the road, leaving them no way to drive off.

Darius patted Joelle's head reassuringly, gesturing for her to stay calm. Nodding vigorously, Joelle reached for her phone to call for help, only to realize it was turned off.

"Don't worry. Stay in the car and wait for me. I'll give you my phone. If things get dangerous, call the police or anyone else," Darius instructed, implying he would confront the group outside.

Joelle shook her head, disagreeing. "We don't know what's going on yet, Dar. Those people might be dangerous. Don't go out to face them just like that."

"They're obviously coming at me. Trust me. They won't dare touch me."

Joelle persisted, "No, I can't just watch you go out alone. If you insist on getting out of the car, then I'll come with you."

"What good will it do for you to get out?" Darius's tone turned firm. "Just stay in the car and don't cause any trouble for me, okay?"
