Prince Wenhao walked forward to steady Prince Huai. Then Princess Ji hurried to say, “Wenhao, you’d better let the servant do the job in case you get yourself infected.”
Hearing that, Qingling felt like burning with annoyance. She put on stethoscope and huffed to Princess Ji, “Princess Ji, you are not helping at all! Instead, you have been instigating. Why don’t you get out to have a cup of tea and enjoyed your gossiping time with others. That’s what you are good at!”
Frozen, Princess Ji had never expected her to say such mean words. Then she looked at Ms. Lu with guilty face, “Ms. Lu, I am so sorry for not helping.”
Actually, Ms. Lu also found it annoying when hearing Qingling’s sarcasm. So she refuted, “You have no right to ask her out! If it weren’t for Princess Ji’s efforts to ease the whole residence, it would have been a chaos right over here. How dare you show disrespect to the senior before we really figure out if you do have some kind of proud talent in treatment.”
Qingling was rendered quite annoyed, “Ms. Lu, your son is still sick on the bed. Hard to predict how much time he still has. By the order of His Majesty, I am here to save him, not to worsen his situation. I have explained clearly to you about the mask. The illness is highly contagious. A mask is to prevent further infection. I don’t care whatever you think about it or how much you hate it. But both you and Princess Ji shall never do anything to hold back my treatment plan. I don’t know what she is up for. But I am sure she doesn’t love your son as much as you do. Now I am the doctor. I am on the same side of the patient and also the family of the patient. If you are sensible enough, you should be on my side. After all, even His Majesty chose to follow my advice when speaking of the treatment.”
“Princess Chu, I don’t know what you meant by insinuating that I am up for something. What should I be up for? I can’t afford to be blamed for nothing.” Princess Ji hurried to defend herself before Ms. Lu spoke.
“Princess Ji, I am not interested in arguing with you. You should just stand by and watch or get out.” Qingling said straightforwardly.
When Ms. Lu was about to utter, Qingling looked over to her, “Ms. Lu, think twice before making speech.”
After some consideration, Ms. Lu turned to say to Princess Ji, “Forget it. There’s no need to argue.”
Princess Ji let out a sigh, “Okay, I will keep quiet.”
As it was a talk between ladies, Prince Wenhao deemed it unnecessary for him to cut in. But he couldn’t help casting a look of appreciation to Qingling, whom he assumed that Princess Ji would get her too mad to keep sober. However, Qingling actually managed to refute and stop their questioning by reasonable words pointing out that Princess Ji was planning something fishy, which left her no room to argue again.
Of course, Ms. Lu had never been a light-headed type. She just temporarily lost her soberness because of agitation and also her mistrust about Qingling, which led to her great suspicion.
But after hearing what she just said, Ms. Lu was inspired.
It did no good to her if Prince Huai died of illness.
However, if she managed to cure him, both Prince Wenhao and she herself could get the favor of His Majesty.
So Qingling had no reason to do harm to Prince Huai.
However, Princess Ji had been stirring up troubles with the excuse of wearing mask. At a second thought, she did look like trying to sow discord. Besides, she still insisted to stay even with the guarantee of Qingling.
And for sure, Ms. Lu was quite aware of the reasons why those princes frequently dropped by for a visit during these days.
Prince Huai had been haunted by the illness for three years. But only Prince Wenhao had actually paid regular visit for all these years.
But now his brother princes all started to show up in the residence to express their concern about him. Even Prince Ji suddenly moved in. Obviously, they all wanted to win themselves some kind of reputation of “Caring Brothers”.
At the thought of that, Ms. Lu was no more confused. She deliberately stood in Princess Ji’s front to block her sight.
Meanwhile, little did Qingling know the change of Ms. Lu’s attitude. She just checked Prince Huai’s lung and heartbeat with the stethoscope.
But it was quite tricky to deal with phthisis because of the lack of medical machine. What was worse, she wasn’t a doctor with rich clinical experience.
She put away the stethoscope and then pressed on his liver and stomach to ask if he felt hurt. Prince Huai recalled that he had been once bothered by stomachache for a period of time. But he seemed to be free from stomachache recently.
Then he asked, “Does it have anything to do with my illness?”
Qingling replied, “Well, I gotta do something more to make sure if the tubercle bacillus had infected your stomach or somewhere else. From now on, the following 15 days will be the key of treatment. Prince Huai, please, do remember to follow my advice. I mean abide by it absolutely. Never stop taking medicine. Never! If you do, I am afraid I can no longer save you.”
“So now…” his eyes turned to be serious, “you mean now you can save me?”
“There’s no absolute guarantee in the dictionary of doctors’. But your illness has gone wild for too long. Well, I’ll do my best.” Said Qingling.
“The doctor said I only got less than ten days left. Now it’s my last three days, I suppose.” Prince Huai said composedly.
