What's wrong?
The driver saw that Arya was confused and asked, "Did I say something wrong?"
Arya shook her head and said, "It's okay."
Obviously, Jasper didn't call Xavier as the driver asked. If he did, Xavier would have known instead of being informed by someone else.
Why did Jasper do that?
Arya couldn't figure it out.
She didn't eat the sugar-coated haws that Xavier bought for her. She turned to look at Xavier. "You know that, right?"
Xavier was confused. Why did she ask this?
He looked at her inquiringly.
"On the day of the accident, you didn't receive any calls from Jasper, did you?" Arya asked faintly.
So that was what she was asking, but Xavier didn't answer.
The answer is not important now.
Arya wasn't stupid. She must know why Jasper didn't inform him. Jasper was being selfish at that time.
Arya did understand. But she was also disappointed.
She felt guilty for Jasper, but she didn't know how to face his selfishness that caused this tragedy.
Xavier held her hand. "Forget it, okay?"
Now that it was over, stop thinking about it.
Arya leaned against Xavier and felt relieved. She was not as guilty for Jasper as before after knowing his selfish intentions.
She fell asleep.
Xavier didn't take her back home but to the company. There was a lounge in his office where Arya could rest.
When they arrived at the company, Xavier carried Arya out of the car.
The receptionist looked straight at them. Xavier was holding Arya in his arms. Xavier was usually indifferent in the company. Now treating a woman so gently made him look more charming.
A tall, rich, and handsome man was always attractive.
The two receptionists didn't look away until Xavier got into the elevator.
"That woman looks so happy."
The other receptionist glanced at her. "You're not that lucky. Let's get back to work."
She might be able to find a decent man if she worked hard.
Xavier put Arya down and covered her with the quilt. Seeing her sleep like a log, he went out of the lounge and closed the door.
As he walked towards the desk, he took off his coat and threw it on the black leather sofa. Then he called Jacob in.
Soon, Jacob came over.
When Xavier returned from abroad, he had already asked Jacob to investigate the Gates Family.
The Gates Family made trouble again and again. That was not a good time to deal with them back then. But now, he didn't want to wait anymore although they still didn't have enough evidence.
Jacob had been busy investigating for a while, but the evidence he found was still not enough to bring down the Gates Family.
"I need more time." Jacob lowered his head and said.
Xavier tugged at his collar impatiently and threw himself into the sofa. He understood that the investigation was not easy. If the Gates Family was that easy to bring down, he would have done it long ago.
"How long?"
Jacob didn't dare to promise. He was not sure.
Xavier looked up. What did he say last time?
How long had it been? No progress?
Jacob didn't dare to complain. Investigating the Gates Family was a punishment for not taking good care of Arya. But he was not capable enough as he hadn't gathered enough evidence till now.
