Chapter 111
Ariana and William’s intimately close interaction quickly caught Brian’s eye.
“Ariana!”
A deep voice, tinged with anger, reached Ariana’s ears. She turned around and saw Brian striding toward her and William, his expression grim.
“Looks like you’re in big trouble.” William, standing beside her, spoke with a mocking tone.
Ariana lowered her voice as well. “Don’t worry, Mr. Kingston. If I go down, you won’t be doing much better.”
Hearing that, William’s lips curved into a faintly amused smile.
Brian walked up to Ariana and noticed the necklace she was still holding, the one she’d just won at the auction.
Brian sneered, “Mr. Kingsman is really generous. He didn’t hesitate to spend 150 million just to give you this necklace.”
“It’s all right,” Ariana replied. She lifted the necklace in her hand and said, “I saw that you seemed to like it too, Mr. Lodge. What’s the matter? Planning to give it to Ms. Granger?”
That one remark turned Brian’s tone even colder. “You already know the answer!”
Ariana knew very well that Evelyn liked this necklace, which was exactly why she had deliberately competed with her for it. This tactic was, in his eyes, truly disgraceful.
Ariana said, “Mr. Lodge, this is an auction. It obviously goes to the highest bidder. Mr. Kingsman chose to give me this necklace. There’s nothing wrong with that, right? No need for you to say such things about me.”
Seeing Brian’s face growing more and more sullen, Ariana felt a surge of satisfaction in her heart.
Η
In her previous life, Brian had stomped on her dignity, humiliating her in all sorts of settings. This time, at least he could get a taste of his own medicine.
She deliberately said to William, “William, thank you for the necklace. I love it. I still have some things to take care of, so I’ll be leaving now.”
With that, Ariana turned and walked toward the other side of the banquet hall. As she passed by Brian, she purposely bumped into his shoulder.
This obvious provocation made Brian’s anger flare.
“Ariana Torrey!”
“Don’t bother seeing me out!”
Ariana waved dismissively, and her nonchalant gesture, along with the way she swayed her hips, practically screamed Brian’s defeat.
Before long, Ariana returned to her seat and handed the necklace directly to Victor. “Mr. Smith, here’s the necklace you wanted.”
Victor eyed the necklace in his hand. Its 150–million price tag gave it an extra touch of prestige
“Not bad,” Victor said coolly. “I can see you’re quite sincere, Ms. Torrey.”
“Are you willing to work with me?”
