“If you didn’t contact Victor, then how did he arrive to save you so quickly?” Brian was doubtful.
Ariana was baffled. “How would I know? Mr. Lodge, you should ask Mr. Smith that question, not me.”
“Fine. Let me ask you this. Did this already happen when you called me?” Brian pressed.
“Not yet…” Ariana mumbled.
“Then why didn’t you call or try to contact me?” Brian growled.
“My phone wasn’t with me!” Ariana couldn’t understand Brian.
She had just been kidnapped, and it was already a struggle to free herself. Why was Brian making a fuss over this?
“Even your useless brother knows to use my name to scare off trouble. Yet the first thing you think about is running away! You never even considered contacting me!” Brian was frustrated.
“Mr. Lodge, shouldn’t saving yourself be a priority rather than relying on someone else? Was I supposed to be a sitting duck if you didn’t arrive?” Ariana defended herself.
Brian’s expression turned unpleasant, “What do you mean by that? Are you implying I would just stand by and let you die?”
“It’s not impossible.” Ariana thought back to her previous life, where she had foolishly entrusted her life to Brian.
When she called him for help, he refused to even pay the five–million–dollar ransom, resulting in her being killed by the kidnappers.
Now that she was given a second chance at life, there was no way she would entrust her life to Brian again.
Brian was furious at her statement.
“Exactly. Why should your life matter to me, Ariana? Why should I save you?” Brian snapped.
Ariana frowned but stayed silent.
Brian turned to Emily. “Start the car. We’re leaving.”
“What?” Emily was puzzled.
They were leaving?
“Brian, are you seriously going to leave me here alone?” Ariana was shocked.
Brian replied coldly, “Didn’t you just say you should save yourself first rather than rely on others? Then walk back yourself.”
With that, Brian turned and got into the car.
Emily hesitated. Gleaston University was near the mountains and miles away from the city. It wouldn’t be good to leave anyone behind.
“Why are you standing there? Get in the car!” Brian ordered, and Emily had no choice but to comply.
As Emily drove away, she cautiously asked, “Mr. Lodge, are we really leaving her here?”
