Chapter 201
“Oops, sorry! I got so caught up in a book I was reading! That’s why I was a few minutes late.”
Under everyone’s astonished gazes, Ariana hopped into Victor’s car without hesitation.
Evelyn, who had just gotten out from Block A, frowned at the whispering crowd that had formed around that luxury car.
“Did you know? Ariana Torrey–Brian Lodge’s fiancée–has gotten into Victor Smith’s car!”
“They must have a special relationship for a guy like Victor to wait for her at the entrance!”
The onlookers gossiped.
The car hadn’t taken off. Evelyn could vaguely see Ariana and Victor chatting and laughing in the car, to her anger. She clenched her fist.
As expected, Ariana’s promise of introducing her to Victor was just a plan to turn her into a joke!
At this thought, Evelyn immediately texted Brennan and urged him to make a move soon. She wanted Brian to see Ariana’s true colors!
the same time, Victor’s gaze landed on the books in Ariana’s arms as they sat in his car. He suddenly chortled when he saw the book “Das Kapital“.
His laugh attracted her attention. She studied his face, but he looked out of the window with a smile. One couldn’t miss the disdain in his eyes.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Reading books like that will only mess with you.”
She protested, “I read it for an entire afternoon, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot!”
“Oh, did you?” He arched a brow doubtfully. “Textbooks love to go on and on about simple concepts. You’ll be reading pages when something can be explained with a few sentences. I thought only average college students would fall victim to these textbooks; I didn’t expect you to be affected too, Ms. Torrey.”
“You” She clearly detected the mockery in his tone.
Without warning, she rolled down the car window and tossed her books out of it. She snapped, “How about now? The books are gone. Mr. Smith, I understand you, though. You just wanted to teach me how to manage a company. I’m not as well–versed in finance as you, after all.”
Her words wiped the smile off his face. “I laughed at your choice of books, and now you’re asking me to teach you? Aren’t you asking too much?”
“Not at all.” In all seriousness, she said, “You’re a legend abroad. Aren’t you here in Gleaston this time to… You know?”
She hinted about Victor being in town to launder money.
Hunter, who was driving, stared warily at Ariana through the rearview mirror. Victor rested an arm against the
window.
He finally said, “I can teach you.”
Before she could celebrate, he swiftly added, “But you gotta pay me.”
