Chapter 204
“Ms. Torrey, please enjoy.” Victor gestured at the dishes before them.
Staring at the T–bone steak with blood seeping out of the meat, Arlana lost her appetite.
“Mr. Smith, I’m not hungry.” Technically, she would never eat dinner. Apart from the few times she had to attend social events, she usually did not take dinner.
Victor sat from across her and placed his slender fingers on the table. He gently swirled the contents in the wine glass, saying, “Do you know what happened to the last guy who tried to read my mind?”
She remained silent.
He went 011, “I hate it when people try to read me. I despise hose who think they’re smart. You should feel thankful that I decided to work with you instead of getting rid of you.”
“Well, I’m beyond grateful to you.” Ariana couldn’t even force a smile. She had tried to get Victor to work with Evelyn, but he pulled her into this mess instead.
She wondered what Victor saw in her. Although Evelyn was the only daughter of the Granger family, Evelyn was blessed with a vast social network and wealth.
Had it not been for the fractured relationship between the Grangers and Lodges, Belinda might even approve of Evelyn as her future daughter–in–law.
When it came to looks, Evelyn was considered outstanding, especially in Gleaston.
In the past life, Victor fell i
love with Evelyn at first sight.
“Now, Evelyn had generously offered Victor a parcel of land worth 100 million dollars. Why did he turn it down?
Ever since Ariana was reborn, everything around her seemed to have spiraled out of order, except for Gwen and Igor the dumb mother and son
–
She rubbed her forehead. Sounding tired, she said, “Mr. Smith, I hope you could think over it-”
“We’ve signed the contract. There’s nothing more to think over.” He arched a brow. “Are you scared?”
“I-”
“You should have known not to mess with me in the first place.”
Ariana was aware of Victor’s notoriety. He was from the underworld–a heartless, unreasonable man who did not go by the rules.
Dealing with a man like Victor came with high risks. But Ariana didn’t have another choice back when she had signed the contract.
She couldn’t risk having Evelyn benefit from the deal with Victor. That would mean going through the same timeline from her past life, and she might end up dead.
“Mr. Smith, you’re kidding me, How would I be scared of a friendly man like you….” While speaking, she silently rolled her eyes at her own behavior.
She thought, “Ariana Torrey, the first thing you mastered after your rebirth is to suck up to people. You’ve really sacrificed a lot to survive until the end, even resorting to making up nonsense.”
Looking calm, Victor replied, “I’m glad to hear that since we’ll be meeting often after this. You might die from a heart condition if you’re scared out of your wits every time you see me.
