Chapter 209
“That works. See you, Mr. Kingsman!” Ariana gave him a grateful nod before leaving campus.
Meanwhile, Belinda was throwing a fit at the Lodge residence.
“Ridiculous! Who gave you the permission to carry it out?” Belinda slammed her fist on the table. Never had she expected Brian to host a press conference to call off his engagement to Ariana when she wasn’t paying attention.
Brian sat on the couch without a word.
Emily chimed in, “Mrs. Lodge Senior, what happened was
“Shut up!” Belinda snapped at Emily. “I made you work for Brian so you could keep an eye on him! But look at you! You’re letting him do as he wishes. How could lie not discuss such a serious decision with me?
“Brian, do you still see me as your grandmother?”
“Grandma, I’ve never liked Ariana. She was the one who suggested calling off our engagement. All I did was to grant her wish,” Brian revealed in an icy tone.
Belinda nearly choked from the anger. Emily hurriedly held her. “Mrs. Lodge Senior, calm down…”
It took Belinda a while to gather herself. “Where’s Ariana now?”
“Ms. Torrey should be… at college right now.”
“At the college?” Belinda couldn’t believe that Ariana attended college as though nothing had happened. Does she want to be the laughingstock at Glea College after the debacle that had happened?
. “Get Ariana back here!”
Brian snapped his head up. “Grandma, we’ve called off the engagement. There’s no point getting Ariana back to our place.”
“That’s not up to you to decide!”
“I’m the head of Lodge Co. My decision is final.” Brian rose from his seat with a flat expression. “Grandma, you’re not in good health. I hope you don’t concern yourself with matters of my marriage. Emily, get the car.”
“Got it, Mr. Lodge…” Emily quickly drove the car over, and Brian left the Lodge residence without even looking back.
In the car, Emily stole glances at Brian’s grim face through the rearview mirror. She finally blurted out, “Mr. Lodge, is there no need to get Ms. Torrey from college?”
Brian shot her a frosty stare.
Emily’s phone rang at that moment. It was a call from the college dean, which she picked up without hesitation.
A voice played on the car speaker.
The dean, Christopher Gail, spoke with an ingratiating smile, “Ms. Weston, the school just received news that Mr. Lodge and Ms. Torrey have called off their engagement.
“About Ms. Torrey–didn’t she take a leave of absence before? Her credits are insufficient as well… Do you think it would be appropriate to discuss with Ms. Torrey the possibility of her withdrawing from school?”
