A Bride’s Revenge No Longer the Backup novel Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Just then, a knock sounded on the door. Evelyn opened the door after a brief knock and entered.

In her white gown, she looked the picture of nobility and grace. Her long, straight hair cascaded down to her waist, adding a touch of gentleness to her presence.

“The auction is starting, Brian. Let’s go,” she said.

Gwen’s expression stiffened when she saw Evelyn

If it weren’t for Evelyn’s meddling, Ariana would’ve married Brian long ago. Now, they were attending an auction together. Brian hadn’t even considered what the Torrey family would say about that.

Clearly, this was an obvious move to embarrass them.

“Mrs. Torrey, was it? Brian’s mentioned you before. And you are…” Evelyn trailed off as she took in Fiona’s outfit, which was a mirror of her own style. She smiled.

Was one Ariana not enough? Now they were bringing in another one.

Then again, it didn’t matter how many people they paraded in front of Brian; they were all just stand–ins.

Noticing Evelyn’s attention on Fiona, Gwen grew uneasy. She quickly tugged Fiona toward the door. “We’re done with our business here, so we’ll be leaving now! Right away!”

She left with Fiona.

Brian frowned at Evelyn. “You’re not fully healed yet. Why did you come?”

“I’m here to accompany you to the auction, of course. I know this event is important to you. I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Evelyn said as she made her way to Brian’s side. “Unless… You’ve already gotten another plus one?” Brian did not answer.

He had sent Ariana an evening gown earlier, but that was by Belinda’s orders, not his own volition.

Beside him, Emily leaned down and whispered into his ear, Mr. Lodge, Ms. Torrey said she’s not attending…” She wasn’t attending?

Where did she get the sheer audacity?

She used to beg for opportunities like this. Now, she was refusing to attend?
