Chapter 222
In Gleaston, Evelyn had always enjoyed a level of protection due to her status as “Brian Lodge’s most beloved woman“. No one would dare to bully her.
But lately, Evelyn’s actions had become increasingly puzzling to Brian.
A staged suicide attempt, her scheming against Ariana at Glea College, summoning Brennan back to Gleaston, and even her secret attempts to approach Victor. Brian was aware of it all.
One by one, these actions didn’t align with the Evelyn he once knew–the Evelyn who would never resort to such underhanded tactics.
“Mr. Lodge, perhaps you shouldn’t dwell on the past. Ms. Granger was very worried when she heard you were at the hospital,” Emily interjected cautiously.
“She was worried. She was worried about how much I cared about Ariana,” Brian replied coldly.
The lights above the operating room door remained red, and Brian sat on a bench in the hospital corridor, waiting silently. When he was cradling Ariana and rushed her out of the police station earlier, he realized just how much this woman meant to him..
Meanwhile, at the police station…
“Keep hitting them. Don’t stop,” Victor ordered.
He sat calmly on a chair, his expression indifferent while listening to the anguished cries of the imprisoned
women.
While he had no habit of laying hands on women, that didn’t mean his men shared his scruples.
Officer Zeller who stood nearby was drenched in cold sweat. It had already been 20 minutes. If they keep going. those prisoners won’t make it out alive!
“Mr. Smith… Perhaps that’s enough? If they keep going…”
Before he could finish, Victor suddenly opened his eyes and asked coldly, “By the way, who ordered the attack on Ariana?”
“It’s… um…” Officer Zeller stammered, unable to answer. He couldn’t exactly pin it on Brian–or himself!
Panicked, he pointed at the cell and ordered, “Hit harder! Don’t stop until I say so!”
“Yes, sir!”
The female prisoners‘ screams intensified. Victor, however appeared to have grown bored of those screaming. He pulled out a gun from his waistband. “These prisoners… They’re all death row inmates, right?”
“Y–Yes,” Officer Zeller stammered.
Before he could finish, Victor fired several shots into the cell, the deafening sound reverberating through the
station.
Officer Zeller dropped to the ground in terror, clutching his head. The screams from inside the cell abruptly ceased.
Victor casually blew on the smoking barrel of his gun and said calmly, “Deal with the bodies: Don’t make me come down here again to clean up your mess. Understood?”
“Yes… Yes, I understand!!!
