Chapter 226
Brian knew he was at fault, so he was silent for a long moment. Finally, he took a deep breath and said, “You’ve had your say. Tell me what kind of compensation you want.
“Good. Straight to the point,” Ariana said, her tone icy. This was precisely the moment she had been waiting for.
“I want you to promise never to go after the Torrey family again. And don’t bother me anymore. Since we’ve already called off the engagement, let’s settle this once and for all. My injuries were because you wrongfully accused me, so you’re covering all my medical expenses.”
“That’s all?”
“That’s all,” Ariana said sharply. “Although, if your conscience nags at you and you want to offer some financial compensation, I wouldn’t say no. Think of it as a breakup fee.”
The mention of a “breakup fee” made Brian’s expression darken. For reasons he couldn’t explain, those words stung more than he’d anticipated.
“What’s wrong? Feeling reluctant?” Ariana teased.
“I’ll pay you,” Brian said through gritted teeth.
Ariana wasn’t particularly surprised. Brian had no shortage of money. Throwing a few million her way for a breakup fee wouldn’t hurt his finances in the slightest.
“Since I’m responsible for your injuries, I’ll take full responsibility for your recovery,” he added.
“Alright!” Ariana nodded approvingly. At least he wasn’t completely heartless.
“So, tomorrow, I’ll have Emily arrange for your discharge. You’ll stay at the Lodge family residence during your recovery.
The smile on Ariana’s face vanished immediately. “Why should I stay at your house?”
“I’ve already arranged for the most skilled overseas specialist to treat your hand. If you don’t want to lose your hand permanently, you’ll follow my arrangements.”
“You-!”
“This is my way of taking responsibility. After five months when your hand is fully healed, you’re free to leave. If not, I’ll give you compensation. You name the amount.”
Ariana paused, her skepticism evident. “You’re saying… I can name any amount?”
“Yes.”
“Any amount at all?”
The glint in Ariana’s eyes made Brian reconsider his offer. I left unchecked, she might shamelessly demand his entire fortune.
He frowned and added, “The cap is 50 million.”
Ariana scoffed internally. Of course, she knew it was too good to be true. Still, the deal wasn’t bad. Five months at the Lodge residence meant free meals, top–tier medical care, rehabilitation, and even the possibility of fifty million dollars if things didn’t go well. It was a deal with no downsides.
“Fine. I’ll agree to that,” Ariana said, decisively.”
