Chapter 369
“Ari!” Selena jogged up to her with a worried look. “Why are you only here now? You didn’t pick up my call either.
“What’s wrong?” Ariana gave Selena a quizzical look.
Selena whispered in her ear, “Gwen came to the college last night and threw a huge tantrum. Many saw her. This morning, someone posted on the college forum saying that the Torreys were bankrupt and that Gwen was trying to sell out her family for money again!”
“Sell out her family for money again?” Ariana immediately caught the key point.
Nodding furiously, Selena replied, “They’re talking about Flona! At this rate, people will see you as a joke soon. They say that Mr. Lodge called off the engagement because he looked down on you. In no time, Gwen sent her niece into his bed again. Last night, she tried to drag Fiona with her to demand two million dollars from the Lodge family!”
Ariana quietly raised her brow when she heard the amount Gwen had borrowed about a million dollars at first. Even with the rolling interest rate, after a few days, Gwen had just owed a little more than a million dollars.
Gwen asked for two million dollars, which was a suspicious move. Ariana suspected that Gwen was worried about getting exposed. In six months–the end of the year–the money she and John Wagner embezzled would be exposed by the audit, after John had been fired.
That explained why Gwen was in need of money. “It’s fine
fine. Ignore her. Let’s focus on the exam.”
They would be free after sitting for today’s exams. That would be one thing out of Ariana’s mind.
She walked over to her seat, but everyone shunned her.
At that moment, Christopher entered the exam hall with the college leadership. Looking stern, he said, “Let’s pause the exam for ten minutes.”
“Why are we pausing the exams?”
“What’s going on? Is there something serious?”
The students started to gossip. Ariana frowned. Why would they need to pause the exam for no good reason?
The exam takers all exchanged puzzled looks. Only Evelyn and the girls who sneaked into the office and edited the exam papers looked nervous.
Had they been caught?
Evelyn unconsciously clenched her fist. This was the final stage of the exams, and she didn’t want any accidents to happen.
“Someone has cheated in the exams. This calls for the college leadership’s attention. To the student who cheated.
turn yourself in right now, and we can consider lightening the punishment.”
Evelyn grew even more nervous after Christopher’s announcement. Gasps filled the air–everyone was curious to learn more.
Ariana observed the faces around her, and soon, she noticed Evelyn sitting in the back, looking uneasy.
Ariana frowned.
