Chapter 57
Chapter 57
“L… I…” Evelyn bit her lip and instinctively glanced toward Brian. He frowned and was displeased with the situation she was being put through.
He stood up and announced, “Evelyn and I are just friends.
“There’s no need for you to speak on her behalf! Let Ms. Granger explain herself,” Belinda interjected sharply and turned to Evelyn.
“Me and Brian, we’re just friends.”
“Yet rumors claimed that you attempted to harm yourself for Brian. Is that true?” a reporter asked.
Belinda grabbed Evelyn’s left hand. The latter had a pale face and her wrist wrapped in a clean bandage. It seemed that she was injured.
Evelyn flinched and refused to comply, but Belinda decisively tore off the bandage to reveal Evelyn’s unharmed wrist. Not a single scar or wound marred her skin.
Gasps rippled through the room as the reporters murmured amongst themselves. The color drained from Evelyn’s
face.
linda sneered. “As you
can see, it’s all nothing but a misunderstanding, Ms. Granger’s wrist is clean, and there’s not even a single scratch.”
Brian’s frown deepened.
Evelyn avoided his gaze, and she desperately wished for nothing more than to disappear from the stage.
Ariana was similarly stunned to see that it’d all been just an act. She’d assumed that given Evelyn’s personality, the latter would have resorted to such extreme measures to disrupt the engagement. Yet it turned out to be a calculated ruse to test her significance in Brian’s heart.
Evelyn soon fled the stage in tears.
Brian rose to his feet and coldly announced, “That sums up the press conference.”
He glanced at Emily and signaled for action. The latter stepped forward and addressed the reporters. “Ladies and gentlemen, the press conference has ended. Please come with me. We’ve prepared gifts as a token of appreciation.
The reporters were soon ushered out of the venue.
Ariana was about to leave when Belinda said, “Come with me, Ariana.”
Ariana showed no response, but she eventually complied and followed Belinda backstage.
Evelyn was in the lounge escorted in by Belinda’s aides. The latter settled on the couch and sipped on tea.
She cast a cold glance at Brian and remarked, “Brian, do you now see what kind of woman you claim to like?”
Evelyn’s face turned a deeper shade of red, but Brian spoke up. “Even if Eve didn’t harm herself, did you have her humiliate her in front of such a large crowd?”
“Humiliate her?” Belinda snorted.
“She brought disgrace upon Ariana and the Lodge family. She staged an act at the engagement ceremony to lure you away, and that humiliated Ariana and made our family laughingstock! Why don’t you call her out for her manipulative scheming?”
