When Gwen saw the transfer agreement, her expression took a 180–degree turn. Her tone softened and was immediately laced with hints of flattery. “Come on, Ariana Igor is your younger brother after all. If he takes over the company, it will ensure that the Torrey family legacy continues. He will also serve as your backer so you can marry Mr. Lodge with peace of mind. Isn’t that killing two birds with one stone?”

As she spoke, Gwen quickly pulled Igor over and scolded, “What are you waiting for? Apologize to your sister right now! Who gave you the permission to barge into her room early in the morning?”

Reluctant to comply, Igor retorted, “Torrey Co. will be mine sooner or later anyway! She’s threatening to call off the engagement and ruin my future. Of course, I must set things straight with her!”

Ariana simply watched, unfazed.

She had never expected her younger brother to start coveting the family’s assets at such a young age.

He already saw himself to be the future head of the family.

Clearly, Gwen’s careful “nurturing” hadn’t gone to waste.

“This kid has no idea what he’s talking about. Don’t take this to heart, Ariana. Why don’t you give me the agréement? I’ll keep it safe for you,” urged Gwen, trying to feign concern.

All she cared about was that agreement.

The agreement clearly stated that Igor could take over the company as soon as he graduated from high school. The mother–and–son duo had waited so long for this moment–there was no way they would let anything go south

now!

Ariana’s gaze shifted to Gwen, and she chuckled lightly, “Is this what you really want, Ms. Lambert?”

“Yeah…”

Before she could finish, her words were cut short. Ariana ripped the agreement in half.

The color drained from Gwen’s face at once. Igor bitterly exclaimed, “Ariana Torrey! What are you doing? Who gave you the right to tear it up?”

Igor anxiously rushed forward to snatch the document. Within seconds, however, Ariana casually shredded the agreement into smaller pieces. Unblinkingly, she scattered them before the two of them.

She spoke indifferently, “I will never hand over Torrey Co. to Igor Torrey. Why don’t you and Igor take a chill pill?”

“What did you just say? Ariana Torrey! If your brother doesn’t take over the company, who will? He is the only male heir in the Torrey family! You…”

Ariana interrupted, “Igor isn’t even my father’s biological son, to begin with. I have already decided to take charge of the company myself. Besides, when my father passed, his will explicitly stated that I was to manage the company. As for the inheritance… apart from the five million dollars left to you and your son, the Torreys were only to provide you with two bedrooms.”

“What! There’s no way Dad only left us with five million dollars. You must have tampered with Dad’s will!”

Igor looked utterly incredulous. 1

The family’s assets were worth at least several billion! Though they couldn’t compare to the Lodge family’s wealth in the trillions, they were still one of the top names in Gleaston.

How could Carson leave only five million dollars to the two

“If you don’t believe me, I can arrange for the lawyer to bring the will over someday. That way, everyone can see for themselves,” said Ariana, shrugging. She then added as though she had just remembered, “Oh, and the will clearly states that Torrey Co. is for me to inherit. You and Igor don’t have to waste much energy. If you harbor arry thoughts you ought not to, don’t blame me for turning merciless.”

Seeing Igor and Gwen’s stunned expressions, Ariana couldn’t help but scoff.

When she first saw the will in her past life, she had concealed the division of assets from Gwen and her son. She worried that the news would hurt the two. Instead, she allowed them to squander the family’s resources freely. She H

had believed that Gwen treated her as her own daughter and acted out of genuine care.

But in reality, Gwen’s only goal was to marry her off as soon as possible to pave the way for her son!

In her previous life, Igor squandered the family’s whole fortune within three years. The two went to the Lodge family to coerce Ariana into embezzling their assets. Only then did she finally realize the true nature of these two.

“Ariana, are you serious about what you just said?” prodded Gwen, her voice tinged with panic.

If Carson had truly been so heartless, what would become of her and her son?

Would they have to live off the five million dollars for the rest of their lives?

Ariana sat down in a nearby chair and said, “It looks to me like you still don’t want to take my word for it, Ms. Lambert. Well, let’s settle this then. I’ll ask the lawyer to bring the will in a while. That should be enough to convince you.”

“Mom! Don’t believe her! Whatever she’s saying is all nonsense! Dad wouldn’t do that to us!”

Igor shot Ariana a glare, his eyes filled with resentment, “I reckon she’s only mad because her Brian Lodge fell through. That’s why she wants to take back Torrey Co! Mom, I am the son of the Torrey family! The company is rightfully mine!”

“My apologies, but you just lost that right.”

Ariana wore a faint smile on her face, but her stance was one of authority.

Gwen and Igor were so angry that their faces were flushed with anger.

Just at that moment, a maid’s surprised voice sounded from outside the door. “Mr. Lodge? What brings you here?”
