Chapter 84
Ariana had just lifted her teacup when Brian reached out and pressed her hand down firmly.
Without warning, he slapped the cup from her grasp, and shattered on the floor.
“Ariana, you’re ruthless. You almost fooled me last night.”
“Mr. Lodge, what are you talking about? I have no idea what you’re referring to.”
Ariana looked at him with innocent eyes.
Brian’s voice turned icy as he retorted, “You conspired with Grandma, didn’t you? You deliberately set up that private moment between us just so Eve would see it and think there was something going on. All of this was just for that two billion, wasn’t it?”
Ariana realized that Brian had suspected that the money she had used to save the company had come from Belinda.
“Mr. Lodge, you’re reading too much into this.”
Ariana looked at him earnestly and said, “Last night had nothing to do with me. As for the two billion, I raised that on my own–it has nothing to do with Mrs. Lodge Senior.”
“Are you still trying to lie?”
Brian’s eyes narrowed. “I used to think you were just a gold digger, but now I see your ambitions are far bigger than I ever imagined.”
Brian gradually approached Ariana and said, “Tell me, how much did Grandma give you to go to such lengths to scheme against me?”
With Brian standing just a step away, Ariana instinctively took a step back and said, “Brian, I don’t know where you’re getting these ideas, but I’ve already said everything I have to say. If you insist on seeing me that way, then there’s nothing more I can do.”
Seeing Ariana’s indifferent expression, Brian’s irritation only grew. He sneered, “You really think I can’t do anything to you?”
Ariana’s gaze remained steady, “Mr. Lodge, you’re such a narcissist. I’ve never had any feelings for you. If you hadn’t insisted on refusing to break off our engagement and had Mrs. Lodge Senior interfere, we would have nothing to do with each other by now.”
Hearing Ariana’s words, Brian’s expression turned cold.
“I think it’s best if we go our separate ways,” Ariana suggested. “Once the recent rumors about us die down, we can find a way to break off the engagement, can’t we?”
“So, you want to break off the engagement?”
“Yes,” Ariana replied without hesitation.
“Let me make one thing perfectly clear to you,” Brian said, enunciating each word. “You can forget about it.”
With that, Brian raised a hand and called, “Come in!”
Emily and a few others stepped into the room.
Ariana frowned slightly.
Brian gave a sharp order. “Pack Ms. Torrey’s belongings.”
