To Ye Fan, this was very important.
Prior to this, although he was married to Qiu Mucheng for many years, he had never thought of having children.
The grievances between him and the Chu family had not yet been resolved, and there was no certainty that he would return alive.
He was not qualified to be a father.
Furthermore, he was not prepared to be a father.
He felt that he had not even been a good son and so, he certainly could not be a good father.
Yet, he was willing to take responsibility if Tang Yun had given birth to their son.
Perhaps it was because of his past experiences, for he hoped that his son would not have a tragic life like his that was full of hardship.
He would be a good father.
Even if he could look after his son always, he would provide the child a good life free from want.
In fact, he would give the child the Book of Celestial Cloud.
That is to say, if the child was really his offspring.
However, Tang Yun did not answer his questions. Instead, she looked at the stream under her feet, and said softly, “Ye Fan, do you like the magnificent river and sea, or the long, trickling stream in front of you?”
“Huh?” Ye Fan frowned, not knowing why she would suddenly ask such an irrelevant question.
Nonetheless, he replied frankly, “I've been on the surging rivers and rough seas too often. So, to be honest, I like this small stream that is quiet and peaceful.”
Ye Fan spoke slowly.
Tang Yun was rather moved by Ye Fan's simple reply.
His words brought to her the feelings of someone who was tired of society's ways.
Perhaps these thoughts should come from an old man who had struggled for many years.
She could not imagine how much sorrow and pain this young man had gone through to have such an understanding about life's hardships.
She was silent.
Has he gone through a lot of tragic experiences?
She looked into his eyes and saw the resolution there but there was also a lot of unspoken emotion.
In that moment her heart was filled with compassion for him.
She quickly suppressed the feelings.
She looked at him and said gently, “If that is so, why don't you just let it go?”
“Leave the past and your vengeance behind. Go and pick up a life of simplicity and enjoy a peaceful and blessed life.”
“Each of us has our own story to live out. Why do you want to make your living hard and bitter?”
“You can be like this tiny stream, flowing quietly through the wilderness.”
“The fragrance of flowers and the song of birds will surround you, accompanied by the blue sky and white clouds.”
“There is no hatred nor killing, only quietness and comfort, stability and warmth.”
Tang Yun's gentle voice resonated softly in Ye Fan's ears like the clear spring in the mountains and the quiet wind in the empty valley.
The tone of her voice was tinged with longing and pursuit.
No matter how strong a woman might be, there would come a day when she met a man with whom she would want to live a peaceful quiet and blessed life, far from the bustling crowd.
At this moment, Tang Yun felt that she had met the man who gave her the courage to leave everything behind.
After listening to her, he laughed softly. “Yun, that's so true.”
“After so many experiences, I, too, feel that an exciting life is definitely not my pursuit, but rather a peaceful life.”
“After I settled my problems, I guess I will let go of the prosperity of the world as you said and find a quiet place to spend the rest of my life with someone I love."
“Nevertheless, this is in the future.”
“At this moment, I have not found my peace yet. I have vengeance to seek which I cannot let go of.”
