Chapter 24 The Wicked Mother-in-Law Arrives

Stella made this phone call for the purpose of asking Norman to come to the branch office in his capacity as a director of NG Enterprise to back her up. Even if she couldn’t touch Diane, she could at least teach Maureen a good lesson to let these thoughtless subordinates know she wasn’t someone to be trifled with. This way, they would behave themselves in the future.

However, before she could withdraw her warning gaze, the news that she suddenly heard over the phone hit her like a thunderbolt. “What? What did you say?” she asked in disbelief with a sudden change in her countenance regardless of the numerous onlooking colleagues.

The onlookers couldn’t make out what was said over the phone, but Maureen let out a sneer and cast her eyes over everyone’s faces. “I’m right, ain’t I? The headquarters must have issued the notice by now. Now that he’s no longer a director, who is she trying to scare?” she said with a disdainful snort before sitting down.

On the other hand, Stella hung up the phone. “It’s you! You’re the one pulling tricks behind my back, Diane!” Her eyes popped in anger and resentment.

Diane kept her countenance, but she understood deep down what Stella meant. She merely replied flatly, “I said I would have Norman thrown out of that position within a month. It seems I have thought too highly of him.”

Truth be told, Diane had blurted that out on a whim back then—she wasn’t confident of doing that at all. Therefore, she was also shocked to learn on this day that Norman had been removed from his position. However, she didn’t give her feelings of shock away since she would like to see how Stella would smooth this day’s matter over.

As their colleagues’ discussions grew louder, their remarks became increasingly explicit and offensive. Now that Norman had been removed from his post, how long could Stella stay in her position? In other words, they didn’t have to be afraid of her anymore.

Stella stood frozen in front of Diane’s desk. She then grabbed a folder from the desk, raised it up, and hurled it at Diane’s head. “It’s all your fault!”

The folder rustled as it flew right at Diane’s head. Luckily, Diane reacted quickly enough by tilting her head to one side. She managed to dodge the frontal assault, but the folder still hit her on the shoulder.

Just as she picked up the folder, she saw Mr. Weaving of the branch office coming in through the door. Hence, she stood up.

Stella, who didn’t see Mr. Weaving, pointed her finger at the tip of Diane’s nose and swore, “Do you think you’re high and mighty because you managed to go to bed with Christopher? Nevertheless, you’re nothing but a mistress—you even went to bed with Christopher before divorcing Norman. Does that make you any less disgraceful than I, Diane?”

“Stella!” Mr. Weaving thundered coldly just then. Stella was startled by this, and she looked back with embarrassment written all over her face at the sight of Mr. Weaving.

Mr. Weaving reprimanded, “What are you talking about with that filthy mouth of yours? This is the office, so mind your image!”

“Mr. Weaving, I—” Stella tried to explain herself, but Mr. Weaving dismissed her impatiently with a wave of his hand. “You don’t have to say anything anymore. Just go to the Administration Department from today onward. There’s a vacancy for a photocopying clerk there.”

“What?” Stella’s eyes were bulging out of their sockets. “For what reason? Have I been demoted just because of a word from Diane? Who does she think she is? She’s but a mistress of Christopher Wayne. You can’t do this, Mr. Weaving.”

“This decision was made by the headquarters.” Mr. Weaving glared at Stella with a livid face. Then, he turned toward Diane.

“Good morning, Mr. Weaving,” Diane greeted.

Mr. Weaving immediately wore a smile on his face. “Diane, you really are too low-profile. Had Mr. Waddington not told me about this, I would’ve been still unaware of your relationship with Mr. Wayne. Please forgive us for anything that you found unsatisfactory in the past, Mrs. Wayne.”
