Chapter 48 I Was the One Who Started This Game

“Who cares if they know? It’s not like I’ve done anything dubious either.”

“I thought you didn’t want to let the other Waynes know at all?” Denzel asked.

Christopher fell quiet for a moment before he turned his head to take a sip of his wine. He then stared at his glass and said, “That was back then; it doesn’t matter now.”

Denzel froze for a moment as he stared at Christopher. He then smacked the table and said breezily, “That’s right. Who do you need to fear now? It’s just like what you said—it doesn’t matter anymore.”

Christopher didn’t say anything; he simply glanced at him and raised his hand. Their glasses clinked together, and they took a sip of their wine. Just then, Christopher spoke again. “You spoke of the U.S. earlier. Incidentally, something just happened there recently. I want you to go there and take a look, for I don’t trust anyone else with this.”

Denzel’s grip on his glass froze, and his handsome face stiffened as well. It took forever for him to force a dry smile out. “You’ve got to be drunk, right?”

“I’m perfectly sober,” Christopher said gravely. Denzel pulled a long face at that. He eyed Christopher for a bit before lifting his other hand to smack his own mouth.

“I should beat myself up for running my mouth. Why did I have to bring up the U.S. for nothing?”

Meanwhile, Christopher stifled his laughter as he rolled his eyes at Denzel. “What? Shouldn’t you do something too? This isn’t a one-man show, you know.”

“You—”

Denzel tried to protest, but Christopher interrupted him with a wave of his hand before he could finish. He said, “It’s really important this time. I cannot leave for the time being, so help me take a look at the situation there. After all, you’ve been loafing around with nothing to do recently.”

“Come on, Christopher—you can’t exactly say that, you know?” Denzel looked at Christopher with a hurt expression. “I did help you out before. You kicked my door down and broke it just to have a drink with me, and I humored you for the night. Does it look like I’m sitting idle here?”

“Your mouth isn’t being idle.” Christopher swiftly changed the topic and complained about Denzel’s whining.

“I must have destroyed a galaxy in a past life to have such a terrible friend like you,” Denzel said. Christopher grinned as he took another sip of his wine, but he didn’t speak again. His gaze simply drifted over to his phone lying on the coffee table.

Meanwhile, Diane stood there dumbly on the spot at the Wayne Residence for a long while after receiving that phone call.

Christopher had left in such a rage. Did he go out to drink? Was he calling her to pick him up after his drinking spree? Didn’t he have an assistant and a chauffeur? Why would he want her to do it instead? Moreover, it was someone else who had told her the address too. Was he drunk from drinking too much now?

Diane lay on the bed and thought it over. After a long while of thinking, she finally pulled the covers off herself and got up. She initially wanted to call the chauffeur to pick Christopher up since she was still at home. However, Diane changed her initial idea for some reason after going downstairs. She didn’t let the chauffeur go alone when he finally arrived at the residence. Instead, she followed him.

The car zoomed away into the night, and they soon arrived at The Royal.

Just the name itself sounds ostentatious. He probably comes here often, Diane thought with disdain as she glanced at the glowing, resplendent signboard.

When Diane entered, Christopher was still downing drink after drink. Denzel sat next to him, the coffee table before them strewn with empty wine bottles; some were upright, whereas some had been knocked over to their side in a scene of disarray.

“Oh, you’re here,” Denzel purposely called her. However, the alcoholic fiend himself ignored Denzel’s call as he downed yet another glass while grabbing a wine bottle to refill it.

For some reason, rage rose up within Diane at the sight of this. Without even thinking about why she was angry, she charged over and snatched away the wine bottle from Christopher’s hand.
