A Night's Mistake: The Besotted CEO's Obsession novel Chapter 39

Chapter 39

So you were the one in there,Yolanda said, surprise and jealousy written all over her face as she balled her hands

into fists by her side

Jerry was one of the best stylists worldwide, and no way could Cynthia have got him to notice her without Liam’s help, which meant Liam was there too. Yolanda remembered how embarrassing it was when Jerry blew her off and acted like she wasn’t there. Now, just thinking about it made her face turn pale, and her eyes glaring at Cynthia were filled with hate

Yolanda blamed Cynthia for taking Liam from her. She believed that without Cynthia around, Liam would

eventually fall for her if she kept trying

Biting her lip, Yolanda said slowly, Don’t get too cozy, Cynthia. I’m not backing down.”

Cynthia just looked confused

The rich onlookers were thrilled, like they were watching some juicy drama unfold

They said it was not a big deal if two people wore the same dressunless one of them looked worse. Cynthia was taller than Yolanda by quite a bit, and her dress fit her perfectly, making her look amazing. She wore a shawl like it was nothing, and her hair was perfectly done up. She looked like a queen from a fairy tale. Next to her, Yolanda looked pretty average, even though she had nice skin; her dress just didn’t sparkle like it did on Cynthia. It was

clear who the winner was

The other rich ladies knew Yolanda, and seeing her so upset while talking to Cynthia made them kind of side

against Cynthia

Ms. Wilde, she’s hanging out with Mr. Sullivan. We can’t compete with that, so let’s keep our distance, said Rebecca Stewart, a lady of some standing among them

They thought they could make Cynthia feel bad, but she just coolly replied, If you know it, maybe you should be the one keeping your distance, Mrs. Stewart.” Then she walked past Yolanda to another corner

Rebecca was left feeling embarrassed; she hadn’t expected Cynthia to know who she was

The other rich ladies might not have liked Cynthia, but they kept quiet. She was with Liam, and nobody wanted to mess up without knowing the whole story

Ms. Wilde, what’s the deal with her and Mr. Sullivan?Rebecca was not one to give up easily. She couldn’t resist hunting for some gossip, seeing how

Yolanda seemed to know Cynthia well

Yolanda, trained in high society’s poise, played it cool even while shaking in anger. Glancing at Rebecca, she had a sneaky idea

an

What do you think? With a man like Mr. Sullivan, who wouldn’t want to sleep their way to the top?Yolanda said

hinting at something more

So she’s that kind of girl,a lady said

Can’t believe she was just acting all high and mighty in front of us!another sneered

It’s disgusting, selling her body for money,” someone else cut in

The chatty rich ladies took Yolanda’s bait hook, line, and sinker. Without bothering to be nice, they let their mean

Especially Rebecca, who was still mad at being ignored by Cynthia, believed she was some rich guy’s sugar baby and wanted payback

Yolanda smiled coldly, seeing her plan working

Ms. Wilde, I heard that Mrs. Jasmine Sullivan wanted you to marry her grandson. Now Cynthia is causing trouble. Shame on her,a lady remarked

Yolanda looked more upset hearing that

To the crowd, it seemed like Yolanda had just confirmed the rumors, and they felt sorry for her, thinking her fiancé was being stolen

Don’t sweat it, Ms. Wilde. Girls like her don’t last long. Mr. Sullivan will realize you’re the real deal.”

In our world, marriages are about strategy. Someone who’s just after money won’t ever fit in.”

The highsociety crowd, naive as they were, took Yolanda’s side. They had convinced themselves she’d be the one to marry Liam, ignoring their husbandswarnings and painting Cynthia as the villain

Cynthia found a quiet corner to chill in when all of a sudden, someone’s drink splattered all over her dress. She dodged fast, so it didn’t smack her in the face. Her wide skirt, however, hindered her movement, and the liquid still hit her below the knee. Suddenly, the hem of her skyblue dress was stained with the spreading dark red of wine

Oh my, I’m sorry!the waitress said, looking freaked out. She’d been bumped and dropped the drink. With all these megarich folks around and those crazy expensive dresses, she knew she couldn’t afford such accidents even with a year’s worth of her salary

Rebecca commented with disdain, Well, some people just can’t seem to act the part. You finally wear a fancy waitress dress and end up ruining it. Good luck explaining that to your sugar daddy. Or, you know, let the poor here pay for it.”

The waitress went all pale and tried to fix the mess. I swear, someone bumped me. I didn’t mean to do it.”
