Camila chuckled at Claire’s words. “Mom, how can you say that about me?” Camila pouted, pretending to be upset. “At worst, the food might just not taste good.”
“Alright, alright, I misspoke,” Claire said with a laugh, waving her hand dismissively. “I know you’re capable, darling, but you should focus on your job right now. You’re working to support me, aren’t you?”
Camila nodded, her lips curling into a faint smile.
After dinner, Claire helped her pack her luggage.
Camila glanced at the clock. Connor had been gone for over two hours, and she was getting worried.
Soon, her phone rang. She saw it was Connor calling and quickly answered, “Hello?”
“I’m at your front door,” Connor said.
“Mom, Connor’s here to pick me up,” Camila hung up and hurried to the door.
When she opened it, there stood Connor, smiling at her tenderly and affectionately.
Camila frowned, her eyes scanning him anxiously for any injuries. Only when she was satisfied he was unharmed did she relax slightly. “Did you get into a fight?” she couldn’t help but ask.
“I gave him a punch,” Connor said nonchalantly.
“Don’t do that again,” Camila whispered.
Connor nodded.
“Connor, come in for a cup of tea,” Cole called out from the doorway.
Connor looked at Cole and shook his head with a smile, “No thank you. I’m here to take Camila home, and it’s getting late.”
