With a satisfied grin that hinted at mischief, he zipped up his suitcase.
Back in bed, Connor gently pulled Camila into his arms and tenderly kissed her forehead.
The next day, dozens of coaches were parked in front of the office building.
Employees arrived gradually, chatting in small groups. Once everyone had gathered, the coaches slowly departed from the office building, heading towards the spa resort.
Camila and Connor decided not to join the other employees on the coach and instead took off in Connor’s Rolls-Royce.
On the way, there was a buzz in the departmental chat group.
“This year’s grand prize! I’m freaking out! Whoever wins it owes us a treat—at least afternoon tea, for sure!”
Curiosity was piqued among the colleagues as they bombarded the group with inquiries about the prize, but the admin girl kept mum after her initial tease, leaving everyone even more curious as messages in the chat exploded with over 99+ notifications flashing.
Camila knew the prize well—a couples' trip to Europe and $200,000 in cash. Treating the whole company to afternoon tea would cost a small fortune.
“What are you looking at so intently?” Connor asked, curiosity in his eyes as he glanced at her phone screen.
Camila paused, realizing Connor wasn’t in the group chat. She quickly covered her phone and gave an awkward chuckle.
“The company chat?” Connor raised an eyebrow.
“You know about it?”
Connor chuckled lightly and playfully tapped her nose. “Yeah, the executives aren’t included.”
Camila responded with a laugh, “You have to understand us workers. If the boss were in the chat, no one would feel comfortable chatting freely. We’d be double-checking for typos before daring to send a message.”
