Chapter 411
Jace thought that he had already held onto them, but he did not realize that the ones that he held onto did not love him. He, however, had lost the one that truly loved him.
Freya explained slowly, “I was unwilling to admit it in the past. I was unwilling to admit my failure. I also was unwilling to admit that I was a loser in terms of relationships. In the end, it was just because I was unwilling to admit defeat that Lucas and I tormented each other for ten years. Now, I’m admitting it. I’ve lost. However, I did not lose to Luna. Instead, I’ve lost to myself.”
She looked toward Jace and asked, “My son, do you know why I was so against you and Sage getting a divorce back then? Firstly, it was because I knew that Sienna and her aunt, Luna, were the same. They’re bad news. Secondly, I was afraid that Sage would walk in my footsteps and waste her life on an unworthy marriage and a man who did not love her.”
Jace’s eyes wavered a little, and he looked emotional. A smile gradually appeared on Freya’s face as she spoke about Sage. “Sage’s character is much stronger than mine. She’s also more decisive than me. Her stance is evident when it comes to loving and hating someone. After she decided that she wanted to walk away, she didn’t want to drag it on any further.
“If I could’ve been like Sage and broke it off cleanly with your father back then, my legs wouldn’t have been broken. You also wouldn’t have hurt so deeply because of us that you don’t even know how to love a person anymore.”
Jace’s voice was hoarse as he softly called his mother, “Mom…”
Freya held back the misery in her eyes and patted Jace’s hand. “That’s why I’ve also figured it out. I won’t force you to get Sage back anymore in the future. If both of you can live your lives in peace on your own, that’ll be enough.”
“No.”
