Chapter 526
There was a bombing case in the suburbs of Nadeem City. Three people died in the car that was burned to the ground.
The police intervened and investigated the crime scene. The clues led them to Sage and Laura, who were currently both in the hospital.
Sage and Laura cooperated with the police’s investigation and was told to share what happened. Then, the police opened an official case for investigation.
As a result, the club was shut down. Sage felt sorry for Henry knowing that she played a role in that.
Hunter flew from Salem City to Nadeem City as soon as he heard about Sage’s accident. He even brought Leah along too. Seeing Hunter and Leah show up together, Sage knew they must have made up. Sage even gave Hunter a good lecture in front of Leah for good measure. Hunter dared not to argue and obediently listened to the lecture. “Yes, it’s my fault. I promise I won’t do it again.” Sage wanted to continue on, but Leah quietly pulled her sleeve and gave a cue to stop. “You’re being too nice. He might bully you more in the future if you end up being liek this.” The motherly side of Sage wanted to spoil and protect the girls in her family. She would never allow anyone to bully them.
“Hunter didn’t bully me. Anyway, I was just being too sensitive.”
Leah reflected on herself. “I know Hunter has been busy with work lately. He had to deal with Jefferson Group too. He hasn’t slept much for days. Before this, he told me that he’d be busy for an extended period. I understood the consequences of that, but… It’s just that…”
“You just can’t stand him not being by your side, right? You felt like he’s ignoring you and neglecting you, right?”
Leah just could not admit those words out loud, so Sage said it for her.
Leah kept her head down. “Maybe I’m just feeling silly. I always think that I’m not good enough for him. I can’t help him with his troubles, and I end up becoming more of a burden to him. I want to be more understanding, but I can’t stop overthinking that… maybe Hunter should find a better woman.”
