Sierra caught the smug look on William's face, his confidence practically radiating off him. She had a hunch—he must have threatened her mom again, forcing her to stay in the marriage.
When Vera saw the disappointment in her daughter's eyes, her head dropped. She couldn't even meet Sierra's gaze and her heart ached.
Sierra must be utterly disappointed in her.
Yet, Vera couldn't agree to a divorce. If she did, she'd ruin her children. Xavier and Sierra would never be able to hold their heads high again.
"You heard her," William said, grinning as he pulled Vera into his arms. "It's not that I won't agree—it's that your mother doesn't want to leave me. She can't."
He looked downright triumphant. As long as Vera stayed married to him, Sierra would always be held back. If Vera were willing to leave, Sierra would have the upper hand. She wouldn't even need Theo's help—she could take William to court herself and win.
But no matter how hard Sierra tried, if Vera refused, she'd still lose in the end.
William noticed the shift in Sierra's expression—how she was starting to take him seriously. He chuckled and leaned back. "I know Theo's into you. I don't want to make this uglier than it has to be. I can give you the birth certificate, but you need to agree to three things. Otherwise, neither of us is walking away happy."
Sierra knew he was a shrewd bastard. There was no way he'd give in without getting something in return. She lifted her gaze, her face unreadable. "Go on."
"First, after you marry Theo, you make sure he doesn't mess with the Shaw family or hurt the Shaw Company. Second, Theo has to invest in Shaw Corporation and become a business partner. Third, if he wants to marry you, he needs to give a monetary gift worth 3,000,000 dollars and a villa in Northridge Estates. For a guy like him, that's pocket change, isn't it?"
William's eyes gleamed with calculation as he sank back into the couch.
This guy was unbelievable by asking for the moon. He wouldn't pass up a single chance to sell her off for his gain.
Sierra let out a cold laugh. "You really think highly of me, huh?"
