Janet grew more convinced that this plan would work. What pleased her the most was her being able to chase that eyesore, Sophie, out once they secured the shares. It was killing two birds with one stone.
The moment Benson stepped out of the room in a white suit with a gloomy expression, Janet immediately pulled him into a corner.
"Benson, if you want those shares, just sweet-talk Sierra. Get her to transfer them to you, and it'll drive Theo mad."
He had lost a lot of weight recently and always looked exhausted. "Cee is already married to Theo, and I'm about to walk into my own grave. There's no chance for us anymore."
His eyes reddened as he spoke in a voice full of regret.
Janet's heart ached at the sight. She patted his shoulder in comfort. "What does marriage matter? As long as there are feelings between you two, that's what counts. Just make sure she hands over those shares. Understand?"
The mere thought of having to call his former lover "aunt" made his chest tighten with suffocating pain, and Janet's words felt like a lifeline, something to cling to.
"Yes, as long as we still love each other, no one can separate us.
"Cee loves me so much. She's just angry. Once she calms down, she'll forgive me…"
He muttered these words over and over, successfully hypnotizing himself into belief. When he walked downstairs and saw Sierra, his eyes instantly brightened, and he strode toward her eagerly. "Cee."
His affectionate voice made Theo's face darken, while Sierra instinctively shivered in disgust and shifted away.
"You should be calling me Aunt Sierra."
Benson looked heartbroken, and his voice dripped with devotion. "Cee, I don't love Sophie. I only love you…"
Before he could finish his declaration of loyalty, Theo pulled Sierra into his arms and warned him coldly, "Benson, you're about to be a father. Show some restraint.
"Sierra is my wife. From now on, when you see her, you should respectfully address her as Aunt Sierra. Don't let me hear any more nonsense from you—or you won't like the consequences."
