A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 296

Krystal's voice was indifferent, as if she hadn't meant anything else by it.

Andrew looked at Denvin thoughtfully. After a beat, he said, "Krys is right. You've taken care of everything for her. No wonder she doesn't know how to be grateful."

Denvin's eyes narrowed. He looked back, and his measured gaze landed on Krystal as his lips curled into a faint, mocking smile.

She looked down, cutting off his gaze, and the corner of her lips curved too.

Denvin scoffed and looked away.

On the way home, neither Melody nor Jeremy said a word.

The next day, Ophelia called Melody. She invited Melody out for lunch and waited for her outside the Regallo Group's office building.

Ophelia studied the younger woman from head to toe before she nodded with a smile, "Not bad. You're looking more alive now."

Melody knew that Ophelia had always been concerned about her, so she felt a little embarrassed.

"I'm sorry for worrying you recently, Ophelia."

"As long as you're okay now."

Ophelia drove them to a restaurant nearby. She chuckled. "I heard that Jeremy has been sending you to and from work lately."

Melody hummed in response, and her hands twisted together unconsciously. She couldn't help but be nervous when a parental figure was asking her these questions.

Ophilia softened her tone. "I guess he is smart after all. Things online got quite out of hand previously, and I'd be really worried something would happen to you if you were to come and go by yourself.

"Thankfully, you didn't move out of his house out of spite. Regardless of everything, safety should always come first."

Ophelia continued to reassure her, "Jeremy's brain might not be firing on all cylinders, but he's not all bad. Rest easy and stay at his place for now, and you can decide what to do later."

Melody didn't want to continue with this topic. Instead, she said softly, "Ophelia, did you have something you wanted to discuss with me today?"

Though Ophelia was a teacher, she had been stuck in meetings lately, so she didn't have much free time.

She pretended to be mad. "What? Can't I ask you for lunch just to show my concern for you?"

However, she let out a sigh right away after saying that.
