A Whisper that went unheard novel Chapter 299

Melody seemed too calm, which made Jeremy's dark eyes flicker slightly.

He explained in a low voice, "Things are a little chaotic right now. I'll tell you more once it's settled."

"Then, I'll head back first," Melody mentioned.

She hadn't had breakfast because of the checkup, and she didn't get to eat lunch earlier either, so she was starting to feel hungry.

Jeremy stared at her. Just when he was about to say something, Caleb called out for him.

He could only reassure her quickly, "I'll talk to you when I get home."

Then, he was off and flinging himself back into work.

It was always like this at the hospital—doctors were swift and decisive, and nurses raced against time.

Melody turned around to leave.

The report for the checkup was only ready in the afternoon, so by the time Melody got home, it was already evening.

After tidying up, she finally took out the hearing aids Jeremy had gotten her.

This pair was from the same manufacturer as the first ones he had ever gotten her, but this was the latest model.

Melody had seen the price before, and it was exorbitant.

She removed her hearing aids and put the new ones on.

Hearing aids required an adjustment period, but there was no one here to talk to her now, so she could only switch them back.

She curled up on the couch while Echo played with its toys in its little bed.

Melody closed her eyes, and suddenly, memories flooded her.

She had first met Jeremy in that dangerous alley. He had never been much of a talker since he was a child and had always been quiet and withdrawn.

At first, Melody had been a little afraid of him. However, after a while, once she figured his personality out, she couldn't stop herself from chatting his ear off.

He might have felt slightly annoyed, but he eventually left her alone.
