After a few seconds of silence, Jennifer said, “I bought them for Isabel.”
Sanford said, “Okay. I saw you carrying a toy car. Does Isabel like boy toys like that?”
Jennifer nodded. “She’s been staying at Teresa’s place these days. She kept asking for toys, so I got her some.”
Jennifer was about to leave, but Sanford still didn’t believe her. After that, she offered to drive him back to the hotel.
Sanford sighed, but got in the car anyway.
He said, “Jennifer, we’ve been friends for years. Don’t you trust me? You can tell me straight if something is up.”
Jennifer had told Sanford before that Teresa had a son.
But then it turned into a daughter, and she wasn’t of Teresa but of Teresa’s mother. So, actually, she was Teresa’s little sister.
However, Sanford remembered that he had seen a boy lying next to Teresa in Cheryl’s car once. He couldn’t help but relate that to Jennifer buying a toy
car.
Sanford narrowed his eyes.
Jennifer said coldly, “What do you want me to say? Can you please not make things harder for me?”
She couldn’t let anything go wrong with her wedding. She was a perfectionist, so she didn’t want to talk about Michael right now.
Sanford sighed again and said, “You can drop me off by the curb. I need to go to the mall and pick up some stuff before going back to the hotel.”
Jennifer agreed and quickly changed the subject. “Hey, can you sing a song at my wedding? I don’t want to be the bride with no one singing for me.”
“Isn’t Teresa singing for you?” asked Sanford.
Jennifer said, “Trust me, you don’t want to hear Teresa sing.”
Sanford replied, “Alright.”
Sanford thought for a moment and then smiled. He said, “I’ll prepare for it. Your wedding comes first. We’ll talk about whatever else after your wedding.”
“Thanks.” Jennifer knew Sanford wouldn’t give her any more trouble.
Cheryl told Lyndon about it, the same guy she saw first when she woke up after fainting from heatstroke last time.
After that scare, seeing someone so warm and caring and always looking out for her, Cheryl couldn’t help but feel a little moved.
Lyndon often took Cheryl out to eat. Every time they met, he would bring her flowers, sometimes daisies, sometimes pink roses, sometimes lilies.

Cheryl said to Lyndon, “I need to go back to Nareigh for a bit. My brother’s wedding is coming. I have to be there.”
