She went downstairs and saw Michael, who should have been at work, in the kitchen making soup. 

When he saw her, he turned and said, “Are you awake? Come have some soup.” 

Chloe had never seen him cook. 

“Did you make this?” 

Michael nodded, his eyes somewhat complicated. 

“Yes, you like pork rib soup, right? I also made some for Grandpa.” 

After they returned yesterday, he had asked Ethan to check the surveillance footage from the swimming pool at Paramount 

Airlines. 

The footage showed that Chloe had not touched Lucy; she had fallen in herself.

Ethan had only recently learned that Michael was married.

“Yes, starting today, you do not need to come to work.” 

Lucy stood there in a daze, the wind on the street whistling past. her, making her think she had misheard. 

“Sally, did you make a mistake?” 

The voice on the other end was firm. “No, that is Mr. Shawn’s decision. If you have any questions, you can ask him directly.” 

After hanging up, Lucy listened to the dial tone, her heart pounding. 

She had been demoted before, but now she was being fired. 

She could not help but think this was related to Chloe. 

However, rashly confronting Chloe now would only backfire. 

Lucy squinted her eyes, deciding not to call Michael but instead heading to Shawn Heavy Industries, the opposite direction from Paramount Airlines.
