Chapter 27: Liar 

Chloe froze mid–chop. 

Some old memories suddenly flashed through her mind, completely out of her control. 

It was her first year manied to Michael. 

He rarely came home. Chloe went all out, cooking all his favorite diales, with just one she loved. 

But he only glanced at the dining table before heading upstairs. 

Chloe called out to Michael, saying she spent the whole afternoon cooking and worked really hard, so he should at least give it a try. 

“Chloe, this won’t work on me. If it’s too hard or unfair for you, just quit. Honestly, I don’t care about these dishes you made, just like I don’t care al 

about 

you. 

Michael kept breaking her heart and hurting him. 

This kept happening so often that even Chloe was starting to go numb. 

Chloe snapped back to reality and grinned at Candy, “I know what you’re thinking. Don’t worry, I won’t do that again.” 

She caught the hint in Candy’s words. Candy was just scared Chloe would fall for Michael again. 

But Chloe’s just not into Michael anymore. 

M, Chloe finished cooking, grabbed a cab, and headed to Paramount Airlines. 

At 11:20 AM 

The moment she walked in, she ran into her old coworker. 

“Chloe, you’re back!” 

When Chloe handed in her resignation, nobody outside the company knew. It wasn’t until she stopped showing up that her coworkers found out. 

Lately, they’ve all been speculating about why Chloe quit. 

Someone finally remembered Chloe’s strange behavior that day. 

So, the whole company found out she was a widow. 

“Chloe, when did your husband pass away? I’m so sorry for your loss. Please don’t quit because of this. You need to keep going!” 

“You’re working so hard, putting in 20 days a month. Quitting would be such a shame.” 

Chloe’s coworker patted her shoulder, trying to comfort her. 

Chloe blinked and smiled. 

“It wasn’t because of him. I’m just exhausted and need a break. He cheated on me and got hit by a car. Honestly, I’m glad he’s gone. No tears for him.”
