Michael got startled. He almost reflexively pushed Chloe to the side. 

Chloe dodged. However, he couldn’t avoid it and got hit by the motorcycle, crashing into the roadside utility pole with a thud. 

The motorcyclist regained control of the bike and turned to look at them. He called them crazy and then sped away

He had been really worried that she might get hurt.
