Chapter 33: Duty 

“Hey, Lucy asked, “Trouble with Chloe lately? Is that why you look so tired and distracted?“” 

Michael snapped back to reality. “It’s nothing. Just thinking about tomorrow’s flight.” 

Lucy didn’t press further, simply asking, “So, you coming to eat?” 

Michael glanced at the takeout box and cracked a rare smile. 

“No, you go ahead and eat. Chloe brought me some food.” 

Lucy froze.

She stood frozen for a long moment before taking a deep breath. 

“Never mind. It’s a bit late for the cafeteria now, and I’m not that hungry anyway. Let’s just go over the key points for tomorrow’s meeting.” 

Lucy forced a smile, hoping Michael would notice her silent struggle and sacrifice. 

But Michael totally missed her point. “Alright, I’ll let everyone know in the work chat later.” 

Lucy felt really uncomfortable being brushed off like that. 

Chapter 33: Duty 

She hesitated for a moment and said, “Michael, everyone just saw Chloe getting close to you. This is still the office. Chloe shouldn’t be doing that.”

“I’m worried the colleagues will gossip about you and Chloe. With evaluations coming up, what if this messes up your 

assessment?” 

“Alright, you go ahead and eat. I’m outta here.” 

Seeing that he was distracted, Lucy wisely chose not to press further and simply walked away. 

The moment she stepped outside, her gaze turned deadly.

Chloe stepped out of Paramount Airlines, her smile vanishing in an instant. 

“I’ve been cooking all morning just to bring him this meal,” she thought. 

Not only did I fail, but I almost got bullied! 

What crazy idea did Candy come up with this time? 

She said the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. What a load of nonsense! 

I actually bought it. 

Chloe angrily whipped out her phone, typed a few lines in her

chat with Michael, and smashed the send button. Shoving the phone back into her bag, she hailed a cab and took off. 

She thought, “If I do this again, I must be crazy!” 

Just as she was lost in thought, her phone buzzed. Chloe unlocked it and saw a message from Michael. 

He snapped a photo of his food and added a caption. 

“They taste good. Now that you’ve quit, come by every day and bring me lunch.” 

His commanding tone made Chloe laugh in exasperation. 

Chloe thought, “How dare he ask me to bring him lunch every day?” 

Her fingers moved faster than her brain. She shot back: “Why should I?” 

“This is your duty as my wife. Do your job well.” 

Chloe tossed her phone aside, thinking, “Screw this duty! He’s totally nuts!” 

She sat in the car, watching the scenery blur past, thinking Michael had lost his mind. 

In three years of marriage, Chloe had cooked once. 

But Michael never ate it. He said her food was as boring as she

Chloe thought, “So all that was just BS! He said it and forgot it!” 

After the anger, Chloe felt helpless and frustrated. 

She thought today’s divorce talk would go smoothly, but it was a total letdown. 

Chloe thought, “Michael is dead set on making my life miserable. Not only is he refusing the divorce, but he also demands that I bring him lunch every day.”
