Chapter 48: Used to Her
After working late, Michael drove home from Paramount Airlines.
He realized Chloe was still nowhere to be found, except for the servants bustling around.
Even though he expected it, he still felt a bit down.
As he headed straight upstairs, the servant asked, “Mr. Shawn, aren’t you having dinner?”
“Not hungry.”
Michael had planned to review the meeting proposal in his study, but as soon as he opened the document, he found himself unable to focus.
Whenever Chloe was home, she always set up some scented. candles to help him unwind.
The subtle aroma of the incense was refreshing and uplifting.
However, today Michael noticed that the usual bottle of incense in the study was missing.
The servant entered the room nervously, worried that one wrong word might anger Michael.

“Hey, where’s the diffuser from the study?”
The servant paused, then remembered. “Oh, that bottle of fragrance is all used up, so I tossed it.”
“Let’s pop open a new one.”
The servant fidgeted nervously, struggling to get a word out.
“What are you waiting for? Go!”
“Mr. Shawn, Mrs. Shawn always handled the aromatherapy. We don’t know where to buy it.”
Michael felt a surge of frustration, almost hurling his mouse across the room.
He thought, “Why is it Chloe again?”
“Is my life doomed without Chloe?”
With a dark scowl, he growled, “Leave.” The servant quickly exited.
He shut down the document and headed for a shower, ready to call it a night.
Just then, his phone rang. It was an unknown number.
This is his personal phone, nothing to do with work. Usually, unknown numbers don’t call.

He didn’t rush to answer. Just before the call was about to end,
he picked up.
“Do you know Chloe?”
A man’s voice crackled through the phone, the background noise. suggesting he was at a bar.
“Who’s there?”
“I’m the manager at Pose Nightclub. Your friend racked up quite a bill, but her card got declined. If you don’t come sort this out, we’ll have to call the cops.”
Michael’s brow furrowed, his expression darkening. “Give me the address!”
In the VIP room of Pose Nightclub, Candy propped her cheek on her hand, staring at Chloe with a look of exasperation.
Chloe had seven or eight go–go dancers circling around her, downing drinks one after another.
Just as they were about to check out, Chloe’s card got declined.
Tried card after card, but no luck.
Chloe flipped her handbag upside down, dumping all her cards onto the couch. One by one, she tried them, but not a single one worked.
“Chloe, didn’t you say Michael cut off all your cards?”
