Candy thought, "Chloe is leaving with James? Is she really planning to leave this evildoer in the past?"
Asher now understood why Michael had been acting so strangely tonight. It was because Chloe was leaving. He stepped forward. "Chloe, are you really leaving?"
"Yes," Chloe replied firmly.
Asher frowned. "If you leave, what about Michael?"
"What about him?" Chloe thought. She said, "I'm not his mother. He won't die just because I leave."
Chloe remembered how cold and distant Michael had been before. Why hadn't he shown this desperation back then?
As Chloe got into the car, Michael immediately followed her. "Michael, what are you doing?"
Michael said, "I'm drunk and feel awful. Let me sit here for a while."
Sitting in the back seat, James watched Michael cling to the passenger seat and snorted, "Let him stay."
Seeing Michael so shameless was rare, and James found it amusing.
Chloe safely dropped James off at his home and was about to call a taxi to go back. James said, "Just drive the car back. It's late. Where are you going to find a taxi?"
Chloe was about to thank him when she saw a Rolls-Royce approaching. It was Michael's car.
James chuckled, "Looks like he wasn't that drunk. He even called for a car."
After thinking for a moment, Chloe drove James' car back to his garage.
Now more sober after the drive, Michael leaned against a lamppost at the corner. His tall frame made him look elegant, even in his drunken state.
"I'll have the driver take you home," he said as she walked over. He took her hand.
Chloe knew Michael was doing it on purpose. He could have had Tom bring the car over after the party, but he had chosen to make this scene.
In the car, Michael leaned his aching head against the window, his eyes closed and brows furrowed. "Tom, drive a bit steadier."
Tom nodded and slowed down.
Chloe sat silently beside Michael but handed him a bottle of water.
"Chloe, I feel awful," he complained, refusing to reach for the water.
With Tom in the front, Michael's childish whining made Chloe's face burn with embarrassment. Michael had no shame, but she did. She unscrewed the cap and handed it to him. "Have some water."
When drunk, Michael was always oddly compliant. The few times Chloe had seen him intoxicated, he always acted like a child.
The car smoothly entered Urban Lane.
After getting out, Chloe thanked Tom. "Tom, when you get back, have the maid make him some honey lemon."
