"I understand, Grandpa," Michael responded.
Admas huffed. "Take Chloe home!"
Out of all the things Admas had said, this was the only one that resonated with Michael.
Chloe initially wanted to refuse. She was about to say she could just ride back with Candy, but then she remembered that Candy wasn't going back to Urban Lane with her. Plus, Wesley was standing right beside her.
As for Jessica, she had Quinn by her side.
Chloe looked to James for help, but he simply waved his hand and said, "My hand's injured, so I called Harold to pick me up."
"Great, they were all abandoning me, weren't they?" Chloe thought.
In the end, Chloe found herself in Michael's car, sitting in the passenger seat. She glanced over at him and asked, "Were the fireworks today your idea?"
Michael's grip on the steering wheel tightened. He figured she must have guessed by now, and even if he lied, she wouldn't believe him. So, he muttered, "Yeah."
Chloe felt a mix of emotions. Although things had gone wrong, she could tell from Admas' words that it wasn't Michael's intention.
"Thank you."
Michael's expression got better immediately, but before he could say anything, she added, "But don't do this kind of thing again."
Chloe thought, "I didn't think he needed to put in this much effort for me."
Michael's expression dimmed once more.
"When are you leaving?"
"My visa will be ready tomorrow, so I'll probably leave early the day after."
"The day after tomorrow... which meant I only had one day left.
I had already asked her to stay countless times before. Repeating it now felt pointless," Michael thought.
"The incident at the fireworks display. No one was hurt, but you should still issue a statement to prevent people from making a fuss about it."
Chloe considered the day's events. With so many people at the scene, it wasn't something they could just ignore.
"Even if there's no clear answer about the light fixture, you need to release a statement to calm public concerns and maintain trust in Paramount Airlines."
Her expression was serious, her advice logical, as she helped him handle the situation.
Michael nodded. "Don't worry, I'll issue a statement tomorrow and do my best to minimize the impact."
"Good."
When they arrived at Urban Lane, Chloe got out of the car and saw Michael unbuckling his seatbelt. She said, "You don't need to get out. I'll go up by myself. You should head back."
Michael paused but then continued to unbuckle his seatbelt. "I'll walk you up."
This was a townhouse, and since the building was low, there was no elevator.
He didn't feel comfortable letting her go up alone.
He walked her to the door, and as Chloe unlocked it and stepped inside, she noticed him still standing there, looking expectant. She sighed inwardly, didn't close the door, and walked straight into the kitchen.
Michael thought this was her way of inviting him in, so with a grin, he stepped inside.
Just as he did, Chloe emerged, holding a bottle of water. "What are you doing?"
Michael was startled. He quickly retracted the foot he had just stepped in with.
Chloe handed him the bottle of water. "Thanks for bringing me home. Take this for the road. Goodnight."
With a loud sound, she shut the door.
Michael stood there holding the cold bottle of water, then turned and went downstairs.
Chloe went to the bathroom. After finishing her shower, just as she was about to dry her hair, she heard a knock on the door.
Chloe assumed it was Michael coming back and felt a bit annoyed. When she opened the door, she started, "Why are you back..."
