Chloe froze in his embrace. After a few seconds, tears began to roll down her cheeks.
Chloe didn't even know why she was crying. Maybe it was because, as he said, she was scared, or perhaps it was all the other chaotic emotions she had been bottling up.
James quietly held her, gently patting the back of her head.
"Since you're coming with me to Mamaica, don't keep everything bottled up around me. It's exhausting, and I won't judge you."
Chloe sniffled, not saying a word.
By the time the nurse returned, Chloe had already composed herself.
She and James walked out of the treatment room together, where Michael and Candy were waiting outside.
Seeing her come out, Michael immediately said, "Do you want to get checked out? I saw that light fixture fall just inches from you."
He had been worried sick while she and James were inside, but he didn't want to seem overly concerned, so he waited outside instead.
Chloe looked at him and shook her head. "I'm fine."
"I'll take you home."
Initially, Michael had planned to surprise Chloe, but instead, the surprise turned into a scare. He still couldn't figure out why the light fixture had suddenly collapsed.
"I'd have to ask Ethan to look into it.
I had explicitly instructed the staff to ensure all safety measures were in place when organizing this fireworks display," he pondered.
Just as Michael finished speaking, Admas walked over from down the hall, leaning on his cane. When he saw Chloe, he immediately asked, "Chloe, are you alright?"
Chloe was a bit surprised. "Admas, why are you here too?"
Not only Admas but Victoria, Cathy, and Jennifer were also there.
"Wasn't there supposed to be a fireworks display tonight? I thought I'd come and join the fun, but then I saw the light fixture collapse. I saw the news and realized it was you, so I rushed over."
Victoria and the others stood behind. They looked like they were complaining.
They had already gone home, but when Admas found out Chloe was at the event, he insisted on coming over.
"I'm fine. My friend shielded me, so I wasn't hurt."
Admas looked over at James, nodding. "Thank you."
James pressed his lips together. "It was nothing."
After thanking James, Admas turned to Michael. He looked disappointed. "What on earth were you thinking?"
Michael lowered his head, accepting his grandfather's rebuke.
Admas was furious and thought, "I had sent Michael to win Chloe back, and what did he do? He organized a fireworks display! The fireworks weren't the problem, but then there was an accident.
Luckily, it was just a tiny light fixture that collapsed, and Chloe wasn't hurt. If she had been injured, or worse, if someone else had been hurt, Michael would have been in serious trouble!"
"Grandpa, it was an accident."
"An accident? And what isn't an accident? Was the crowd an accident too?"
Candy trembled at these words, thinking, "Well... the crowd was indeed unexpected.
I had never imagined that my Twitter post would go viral, with so many people saying they wanted to attend."
