"You said your first meeting with Michael was when you were children, climbing a mountain. Is that right?"
Michael had casually mentioned this story a few times, so no one paid much attention to it afterward. Only Lucy would occasionally bring it up, reminding people that she had saved Michael.
Back then, Michael had gone mountain climbing with Admas but had slipped and fallen, tumbling down the slope. Admas mobilized a large group to search for him.
They eventually found Michael late at night in a small, dilapidated hut on the mountain. His ankle, injured by a tree branch, was bandaged with a silk scarf. It was clearly a girl's accessory.
Lucy claimed that she was the one who saved Michael and that the scarf was hers.
She said that she had also been climbing the mountain with her family that day, and when she saw someone in the bushes, she went over to check.
All the details matched up, so for years, everyone, including Michael, believed that Lucy was the girl who had helped him on the mountain.
However, recently, Owen had begun to notice some inconsistencies.
"Lucy, tell me the truth. Was it really you on the mountain that day?"
Lucy turned her head away, refusing to look at Owen.
"Of course it was me! I've told this story countless times. Why are you questioning me now? Call Michael. I need to speak to him directly. He must not know what's happened to me; that's the only reason he hasn't come to see me!"
She still clung to the belief that Michael would never be so heartless toward her.
"Fine, let's not talk about the past. But this time, why did you try to kill yourself?"
Lucy's breath caught. "I told you, it's none of your business!"
"You're involved with the chairman of Kranton Bank, Abel, right? Even if he's an old man, he's no fool. What did he do to you?"
Owen's tone had taken on a strange edge, but Lucy didn't notice. She continued to face away from him, unwilling to speak.
The next moment, Owen grabbed her shoulders tightly. "Tell me! What did Abel do to you that made you want to slit your wrists?"
Lucy jumped, startled. "What are you doing? Let go of me!"
A nurse, hearing the commotion, rushed into the room. Seeing Owen's agitated state, she immediately pulled him away. "What are you doing? She's pregnant, her condition is already unstable. Don't upset her!"
"Pregnant?"
Owen froze, staring at Lucy in disbelief.
He thought, "How could she be pregnant? Abel lost his ability to father children years ago!"
"Lucy, say something! Why are you pregnant?"
He couldn't believe that Lucy was carrying Abel's child.
At that moment, Lucy's emotions finally unraveled. She looked at Owen and began to scream.
"He had someone rape me! Are you satisfied now? I don't even know who it was, or how many there were! I don't even know what the father of this child looks like! Are you satisfied?!"
Lucy could no longer hold back and collapsed onto the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
She had been with Abel solely for the money. She thought that since he was sterile, at least she wouldn't have to engage in any of those disgusting acts with him.
But she never expected Abel to be such a pervert!
He enjoyed watching other men assault her!
The situation that day had been so chaotic that Lucy remained in a daze for a long time afterward. The only thing keeping her going was the thought that once Abel died, she would inherit a fortune and finally be able to be with Michael.
But then she discovered she was pregnant.
Not only did she realize it, but Abel did, too. She wanted to abort the baby. She couldn't bear the thought of carrying a child whose father was a complete mystery to her.
