Hearing Quinn's response, Chloe finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Quinn could be incredibly stubborn at times, but he wasn't one to lie, especially not to her.
If he said so, then it meant he had thought it through.
"Take care of things with Jessica over there," she instructed, returning to her usual serious tone. "Once I've wrapped things up on my end, we'll discuss the future location for the team."
Quinn, sensing the shift in her tone, quickly reined in his emotions.
Though he still felt a bit hazy, he quietly agreed.
When the call ended, Jessica had already tidied up the room, clearing away all the beer bottles, finished or not, stuffing them into trash bags.
Just like that, the mess was gone.
Standing nearby with the trash bags, Jessica looked a bit awkward, clearly surprised at how quickly the conversation had ended. She flashed him an embarrassed smile.
"Uh, so you're done with the call? I'll leave you to rest then. I'll just take these out."
She carefully retrieved the phone from his hand, then picked up the trash bags, trying to slip out without causing any more disturbance.
Quinn watched her with a small smile, finding her behavior both amusing and a little endearing.
The day after James' surgery, he was already insisting on being discharged. When Chloe rushed to the hospital and saw him trying to leave, she thought he was out of his mind.
"If you dare leave, I'll freeze all your cards. Don't forget, Smith told me the passwords," she warned, knowing this tactic always worked on him.
James, sitting up in bed, gave her a stern look. "Chloe, you're really not helping our friendship here."
"Friendship? We're not friends. I'm just doing my job."
She was quick to draw a line between them.
"There's an issue at Bright Moon International that I need to address. The hospital isn't a suitable place to handle this," he said, surprising her.
James had never shown much interest in Bright Moon International before, especially not when he first took over the company.
But now, right after surgery, he seemed genuinely concerned.
"What's going on at the company?" she asked, now fully alert.
As a part of the company, she needed to know.
"Remember that relative of mine?"
"You mean the one you fired?"
James nodded. "He hired some hackers, and the company's system got breached last night. It still hasn't been resolved."
Chloe immediately became serious. "Why didn't you inform me yesterday?"
This was her responsibility, and James had kept it from her.
James glanced at her, recalling how pale and exhausted she had been after donating blood to him the previous day. He had barely convinced her to go home and rest. The last thing he wanted was to drag her back into work.
Besides, dealing with a crisis across time zones complicated everything.
"My computer is at the villa. I'll go get it. You stay here and rest," she said, frustration evident in her voice.
