Faced with Chloe’s aggressive attitude, Lucy found herself at a loss for words. 

“Chloe, don’t be mad. I just didn’t want you to misunderstand Michael. It’s a big blow to a guy’s pride. You shouldn’t have said that.” 

“When did I get mad? Why accuse me right off the bat? Michael is my husband. Outside, you should call him Mr. Shawn.” 

Chloe spoke so clearly that everyone around turned to look at 

Lucy. 

Lucy’s words were impossible to ignore. 

Chloe’s blunt attitude made things awkward around her. 

Lucy stood in the middle of the crowd, feeling a bit wronged. She fought back her tears, her stubbornness shining through. 

“Michael, that’s not what I meant. Explain it to Chloe, please.” 

In times like these, Michael always had her back. 

In that moment, Michael suddenly remembered what Chloe had said that day. 

She said everyone outside totally misunderstood his relationship

Lucy stared at Michael in disbelief. 

This was the second time today he had stood up for Chloe. 

People around kept glancing at Lucy. 

She studied abroad and didn’t really mix with the local rich 

crowd. 

Lucy was also an illegitimate daughter of the Nelson family, so her identity had to stay hidden. Because of this, the wealthy ladies thought she was just like Chloe, both trying to marry into a rich family. 

They sneered at her just the same. 

With so many people watching, Lucy couldn’t keep pretending to be upset. 

She quickly switched tactics, looking at Michael with a new attitude. 

“Mr. Shawn is right. I’m used to the way things are done abroad, so I slipped up and caused Chloe to misunderstand. My bad. I’ll be more careful from now on.”

Victoria was obviously not pleased. Chloe hadn’t gotten the humiliation she deserved yet, so Victoria spoke up, “Michael, the party isn’t over. Why are you in such a rush to leave?” 

Michael didn’t slow down. “Ms. Shawn, weren’t you the one pushing us to have kids? How are we supposed to make that happen if we don’t go back?” 

Victoria froze, left speechless by his words. 

Chloe was in a daze. After all, it was the first time in three years he had spoken up for her. 

So, this is what it feels like to be protected. 

No wonder Lucy’s so fearless. With Michael protecting her for three years, anyone would be! 

Chloe felt like crying. 

She didn’t feel upset during the confrontation, but now she feels. really hurt.
