Chapter 73: The Gift 

“Michael, that’s cheating! Spectators can’t talk! You’re out of line!” 

Cathy grumbled, looking none too pleased. 

Michael stayed silent. 

“Chloe, why are you so serious about playing cards? We just won a few times, and now you’re getting Michael to help you. You’re worrying over a few thousand dollars. As Mrs. Shawn, that’s pretty stingy.” 

“Cathy!” 

Michael’s voice wasn’t loud, but his tone instantly made Cathy shut up. 

But Cathy still glared at Chloe, rage burning in her eyes. 

“Michael, what’s up with you lately? Why are you always helping Chloe?” 

Cathy suspected Chloe had cast a spell on Michael. 

“Chloe and I are married, so why can’t I help her?” 

Michael glanced at the other three. No one dared to speak.

“Chloe is your elder. If you keep being rude, don’t bother coming back.” 

Cathy’s hand trembled as she held the cards. She was stunned. 

But she didn’t dare to argue. She could only secretly watch Michael. 

She thought, “Michael’s been acting really weird lately.” 

If he really liked Chloe, why was he so cold to her before? 

Did he just fall for Chloe out of the blue? Or did he suddenly realize he’s been in love with her all along? 

“Dinner’s ready, Mr. and Mrs. Shawn.” 

The servants had set lunch on the table. The game was finally 

over. 

Chloe rubbed her aching back. 

She really hates playing cards–it’s boring, confusing, and worst of all, she always loses money. 

During dinner, Cathy glanced at Chloe sitting across from her and had an idea. 

“Hey Chloe, heading to the kitchen? Could you grab me a plate?” 

Chloe knew Cathy was deliberately bossing her around.

Chloe looked up at Cathy and calmly said, “There are servants. 

here.” 

Cathy grinned. “I’m asking you because you’re already heading that way. If you don’t want to help, I’ll just get a servant to do it.” 

Victoria calmly spoke while eating. 

“Cathy just wanted you to grab a plate for her. Why are you mad?” 

Chloe didn’t argue further. She headed straight to the kitchen. 

As she stepped out of the kitchen, she noticed Cathy had her leg propped up on the dining table. 

Chloe probably saw through Cathy’s plan because members of the Shawn family had schemed against her so often before. 

Chloe knew Cathy wanted to see her fall flat on her face in front 

of everyone. 

She slipped behind Cathy. 

“Your legs should be under the table. The Shawn family has tons of rules. You must maintain a graceful posture while eating. Don’t you know? If someone trips, you won’t be able to explain.” 

Cathy never expected Chloe to expose her plan in front of 

everyone.

She angrily shoved her leg under the table. 

During dinner, Cathy was fuming. 

She thought she could make Chloe trip in public, but Chloe wrecked her plan! 

Cathy was on edge! 

Jennifer’s plan failed since Michael was just there to support Chloe today. So, Jennifer and her crew decided to bail. 

As soon as they finished eating, they left. 

The maid was clearing the table. Chloe was lounging on the couch when Michael walked over.
