"Come back and get married, Sophie. That Alpha King, who has been slow to find his destined Mate, is looking for Luna, and Forest Moon Pack is in desperate need of help, so if you can become the Alpha King's Mate, you'll be able to help them get through this. After all, you’ve lived with them since childhood and received plenty of care from those twin brothers."
My hand trembled as I gripped the phone tightly. Taking a deep breath, I managed to reply, "Mom, I’ll think about it."
After disconnection, I returned to the lively, music-filled birthday party with a heavy heart.
Barely a few steps in, the party’s star, Nina, the poor university Omega sponsored by the Carson twins … blocked my path.
"Sophie, why won’t you eat my birthday cake? Is it because you don’t like me?" Nina held the cake out to me, her eyes brimming with tears, her delicate demeanor evoking pity.
The booming music abruptly stopped, leaving her soft sobs to tug easily at the heartstrings of the twin brothers.
Within moments, they left the bustling crowd and hurried over.. one offering tissues to Nina while the other glared at me as if I were their worst enemy.
"Sophie, when did you become like this.. so cruel and petty?" Axel snapped.
"No, Axel, don’t say that about her," Nina murmured, tugging at his sleeve and cowering behind him. "Maybe I did something to upset her. I’m sure she didn’t mean to target me."
Axel’s eyes softened with sympathy, and together with Oscar, they comforted Nina as if she were the victim.
I stood there, watching the scene unfold, and couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. Just three months ago, Oscar and Axel had vowed to protect me for life.
But the moment Nina.. the "fragile yet resilient" poor girl.. appeared, they eagerly abandoned me to vie for her favor.
Now, I had become the villain in their eyes.
"Sophie, don’t be mad at me," Nina cooed, dressed in a princess-like gown and wearing the custom necklace the twins had gifted her. "Please, have a piece of cake. I cut this slice especially for you."
I glanced at the pitiful slice in her hands, a mishmash of frosting and cake crumbs, and easily saw through her act.
But I couldn’t be bothered to engage. With a flick of my hand, I pushed hers away. "Move."
"Ouch!" Nina cried out, stumbling dramatically into Oscar’s arms.
