Ryan and I stood side by side, our fingers interlocked, watching Axel and Oscar cautiously.
“Sophie, we grew up together. How can you look at me like that?” Axel asked, his voice tinged with hurt.
I frowned, unwilling to indulge in emotional arguments.
After all, wasn’t it them who chose to abandon years of friendship first?
I glanced at them calmly and said flatly, “There’s no need to talk about this. I need to go home. Say what you want, but make it quick.”
Oscar opened his mouth as if to say something, but Axel cut him off.
Standing before me, Axel’s cold eyes held a resolute determination.
“Sophie, we were wrong before. We never truly cared for Nina. We only used her to make you jealous, to make you realize who you really cared about. But we didn’t expect…”
He explained how, after learning Nina’s true nature, they had punished her immediately.
Axel’s men had sent Nina back to her parents’ rural home, where they were now arranging for her to marry a blue-collar worker.
I could imagine the harsh life Nina would face, but even so, I couldn’t accept Axel and Oscar’s excuses for their actions.
A faint, cold smile appeared on my lips as I replied, “Axel, Oscar, stop lying to yourselves. There were many ways you could’ve helped me see my feelings. Why did you choose the one that hurt me the most?”
“Can you honestly say that from the moment you met Nina, you never had any feelings for her?”
Axel froze, his expression a mix of shock and confusion.
Oscar’s face turned tense, guilt flickering in his eyes.
