The twins and I put together a proper training schedule that we were going to follow for the rest of the holidays. My days were going to be divided into segments. Tristan was in charge of teaching pack history and information about other packs, Nathan was in charge of strength and combat training and Wendy usually took me to the forest to show me the different herbs and medicinal cures from the forest that her father uses because she’s going to inherit her father’s role as the pack’s doctor after graduation. She would be treating injured werewolves and she’d been training for this for years.
Her father has made sure that she is absolutely ready to take over when she graduates.
It’s so different from being in the human world. Doctors had to go to college for at least 8 years before they were qualified to go near a patient. But werewolves were different. We healed a lot faster and it was harder for us to get hurt.
I was out behind the twins house one afternoon with Nathan and we were doing hand to hand combat and everytime I advanced to attack him, he’d dodge out of the way and knock me down.
“Come on. We’re not leaving until you get me down.” Nathan said.
“Well, that’s not fair. We all know that’s not going to happen. You’re a werewolf. You’re faster and stronger than me.” I said. So he smirked at me and he walked over and grabbed a couple of pads that he put on his hands and he stood in front of me.
I liked this training a hell of a lot better.
I had to cross punch either pad before grabbing Nathan’s shoulders and kneeing the pads as he faced them downwards.
We had to keep going like that for a while and then we were doing more training with different pads that would occasionally hurt Nathan if I kicked them hard enough. But that wasn’t happening today. I was too exhausted to hit them too hard. But I was happy to keep going. I had to keep going. I had to push through the pain.
“Alright. That’s enough for today.” Nathan said.
“No. I’m fine. I can keep going.” I said.
“No. You can’t.” Tristan said from behind me. So I turned around to look at him and he saw my bright red face and how much I was puffing.
Tristan walked over to me and felt my face and grabbed my water bottle and he tipped some of the water over my head which felt really nice before he handed it to me and let me drink from it.
“This shit takes time. You can’t keep working like this otherwise you will pass out and hurt yourself.” Tristan said.
“I know. Everything takes time. But I’m sick of being so helpless all the time.” I said.
“I know. But it won’t be forever.” He said.
Even though the holidays only went for a couple of weeks, I dedicated every second into my training. And even though I didn’t have my wolf yet, that wasn’t going to slow me down. I was glad to finally learn how to fight and I felt myself changing. I was becoming more composed and confident and my body was more toned.
I was also identifying medicinal value in herbs faster than Wendy could do it. Which apparently was an instinctive ability. I didn’t know how I was able to do it. But the others were impressed by it.
The twins and I took a rare evening off and left the packhouse to go for a walk through the forest at the pack of the house.
We ended up at the lake and I sat next to the water, staring at the moon that was reflecting off the still water.
