Nathan and Triston stood outside a locked room. Their eyes on the door and ears on the crowd they left behind. It took everything from them to gather all the Alphas present in Alpha conference and took over the Moon Lake Pack.
And after a vigorous battle they had it under control, but even though they were on the winning side, their minds were troubled.
They both were angry and sad at the same moment. Angry because Alpha Rambo was missing and sad because he might have taken their mate with them.
The winning left a sour taste in their mouth and joyous moments tasted nothing but like ash without their mate.
They entered the room with not so hidden fire in their eyes, their chests heaving with rage.
The tension between them was palpable, and the air was thick with their alpha energy.
Ryan sat tied to a chair in front of them, his head hung low.
Nathan’s fury was palpable in his eyes. “We can’t wait any longer,” Nathan growled, pacing back and forth. “Where the hell is he? Where is Ella?”
He couldn’t control his rage and punched Ryan.
A painful whimper filled the room, blood dripped from Ryan’s lip, but he held his gaze steady, defiant even in his weakened state.
“We know you were the last one with her!” Nathan growled, his voice a sharp edge cutting through the silence. He took a step forward, fists clenched at his sides. "Where is she?"
Ryan winced, but his expression remained impassive. “I don’t know.”
Nathan’s patience snapped. He surged forward, grabbing Ryan by the collar, yanking him upright. "Don't lie to me!" He punched Ryan again, harder this time, his knuckles cracking against Ryan's jaw.
Tristan, though equally furious, watched in silence, his eyes dark and dangerous. His wolf was ready to tear Ryan apart, but they needed answers, not a corpse.
Ryan spat blood onto the floor, coughing as he struggled to catch his breath. He lifted his head slowly, meeting Nathan’s gaze. "I’m not lying," he rasped, his voice strained. "I didn’t take her. But I remember... a place. Where they took me once."
Tristan’s eyes narrowed, and he stepped forward, his calm demeanor cracking. "What place? Talk, now."
Ryan hesitated, his eyes flickering between the twins. His body trembled, not from fear of the twins but from the memory of his imprisonment, the cold sterile room, the sharp sting of needles, the way his wolf had been suppressed. "They experimented on me there… It was hidden, underground. I was barely conscious when they took me, but... if they had her, it would be there."
Nathan's grip tightened on Ryan’s shirt, but he didn’t hit him again. His voice lowered to a dangerous whisper. "If you're lying…"
"I’m not!" Ryan gasped. "I swear. I would never hurt her. They’ll kill her if you don’t go soon."
Tristan exchanged a glance with Nathan, his jaw clenched. They couldn't waste any more time. Every second that passed, Ella was further out of reach, perhaps suffering the same horrors Ryan had endured.
Just then, the door to the room creaked open, and Sara stepped in, her sharp gaze cutting through the tension like a knife. "I’ve been listening," she said, her tone dripping with snark as usual, but there was urgency beneath her words. "Based on Ryan’s description, I’ve located the chamber. It’s buried deep beneath Moon Lake’s territory, masked by some heavy shielding. We’re going in."
Nathan’s eyes flickered with a mix of relief and lingering anger. He let go of Ryan and took a step back. "Good. Lead the way."
Tristan helped Ryan to his feet, gripping his arm tightly as a warning. “You’re coming with us. If this is a trap, you’re dead.”
Ryan nodded, too exhausted to fight back. "I want to help. I want to make this right."
Without another word, Sara led them out of the room, moving swiftly through the hallways. The remaining Alphas waited outside, battle-ready and loyal to Nathan and Tristan after they’d taken control of the Moon Lake pack. But even with the added forces, the weight of uncertainty hung over them all.
As they neared the entrance to the underground chamber, the air grew colder, thick with the scent of old blood and dark magic. Sara paused at the edge of the entrance, her hand on the stone wall, eyes narrowing. "It’s here," she muttered, pressing something into the stone that revealed a hidden door.
